I got my petition in the mail last week... Mrs. Rocket and I both signed, and I was ready to put back in the mail, but I decided to take it to work and leave it on my desk. I got 5 other signatures within 30 minutes.

I requested that they send me some more...

“Save Our License” is a grassroots campaign sponsored by the California Republican Assembly to place a referendum on the ballot to repeal SB 60, the law giving driver’s licenses to illegal aliens.

Aww, the Tustin Tiller Days parade. Grew up in Tustin, thanks for reminding me of those great community parades.

SB60 (the driver license bill) WILL be overturned. I'm circulating petitions myself. Anyone who wants to do the same can go to SaveOurLicense.com and have them mail you a petition (due to the nature of the formatting that the petition has to have, it wasn't possible to make it downloadable). Anyone who wants to do more than just gripe about the situation on FR, here's your chance.

I think the driver's licence and registration tax issues are political dynamite. Played right, they could be used to oust the Dims from control of the legislature.

I agree. Davis would probably be up 3 - 7 points if he hadn't thrown all that BS pander legislation out to the masses.

looks like Davis and the dems really stepped on it this time.

The illegal alien license is really a hot issue, and I think will keep Busty's numbers low what with his connection to MeCHA.

I'll be at my polling place tomorrow, bright and early when they're open for business. I'm trying to control myself so I don't plunge the pin all the way through the voting machine as I yell, "Take that, you RAT scum!!" LOL

Thought: Orange County is not perfectly representative of the state as a whole, and people who stop by a Republican Assembly booth are not perfectly representative of Orange County.

I don't think anyone seriously doubts that the driver license law will be repealed if the referendum attracts sufficient funding. Money has stayed on the sidelines waiting out the results of the recall. California has voted conservatively on virtually all of the big picture initiatives and referenda in the past since 1990 -- term limits, illegal aliens, affirmative action, gay marriage, etc.

Nevertheless, the referendum will face serious legal challenges. The Prop. 187 precendents and the Supreme Court's now-well-established line of "invidious selection" cases (mainly in the gay context) could be used to invalidate it. As wrong as it is, the theory could easily be extended to the proposition that any legislative act which singles out any disfavored class of person for the purpose of denying them any public benefit, privilege or immunity, is unconstitutional per se. Although the recall itself simply repeals legislation, the language used in the petitions and the marketing/promotion of them can be used to show that the intent of the referendum was to deny a right to Mexicans. In other words, the law is a one-way ratchet -- it may not have been constitutionally >required< to let illegal aliens get licenses, but once it was granted, it can't be overturned on any basis which suggests that Mexicans should be denied something Americans have.

It is amazing how many people, who voted for Davis this last November want him gone/out of there.

Lets all get out and vote tomorrow. If our guys come in #1 and #2, that will be a clear message to the rats in the Kaliforniacator legislature not to mess around with reform.

Why bother, as it will be struck down as "Unconstitutional" by some leftist Judge...

I doubt it. The California code governing referenda isn't subject to much interpretation. And the Cal Supreme Court is still more Republican appointees than not. Which is one good reason to get another Republican in the Governor's chair as soon as possible, before that changes.

I'll be there with my 18 year-old daughter, who will be voting for the first time.

And she's her mother's daughter, all right. ;-)

I'd be the first to admit that O.C. is not representative of the state as a whole. But we were seeing Tilt-A-Wirl operators from San Bernardino at the booth signing the petitions. And life-long Dems switching parties. That was unusual for us.

I don't share your pessimism on the referendum. If passed, the referendum merely restores the state to the status-quo-ante. And it doesn't just apply to Mexicans. It applies to Afghans, Saudis, and the French as well. Not to say some judge won't try. But we've successfully recalled judges in this state before too.

The "anybody but a Democrat" Republicans, and the "moderates" and many Democrats will vote for Arnold.

Useful idiots for the RINOs. By the way, I have never been so proud to be associated with the California Republican Assembly. Go, McClintock!
