TOM MCCLINTOCK DAILY EDITION - 10/6/03 (CA GOVERNOR'S RACE)
Please post local, regional, national news and views on Tom McClintock. This is a news and info thread. The following guidelines for posting are per DoughtyOne's most excellent suggestion.
McClintock Camp - Supporters or Defenders
Please post positive articles about Tom's policies and leave the Schwarzenegger bashing to the Democrats.
Schwarzenegger Camp - Supporters or Defenders
The call for McClintock to withdraw right now, or the tactic of calling him and his followers names for not doing so, is not productive and isn't good for the party.
Please save the Rino Arnold/Unelectable Tom rants for other threads.
"Dear Mr. Reagan, it should be obvious to you now that you can never be elected governor. Please put aside your ego, for the good of our party, and get behind the one man who is moderate enough to appeal to California voters - - San Francisco Mayor George Christopher."

Good for her - tell her she is an adult now because she voted. What a great election to participate in for the first time! It was one that would require a great deal of thought and contemplation. Can't wait to cast my vote!

OMG .. when I was 18, and until maybe age 20 or so, I was in my Democrat phase. You must be so thankful that she isn't in one, even temporarily.

It gets better. She's not only a proud young conservative woman, but she's been registered on Free Republic for about two years!

What is your secret? If you've been putting an antidote on the collegiate water, can I have some for my eventual offspring? :) (OTOH, sometimes the best conservatives are evolved (ex-) liberals.)

Easy...brainwashing. ;-)

Larson(Arnold supporter) seems to think that the election might take 38 or 39 days to validate and that no matter the outcome, the election result will be tied up in the courts forever!SoS Kevin Shelley said that CA hasn't certified any recent election in fewer than 38 days. The new governor doesn't take office until the results are certified, so he seemed to be suggesting that we won't have a new governor until mid-November, at the earliest. If the election is close and a Republican wins, then it'll definitely be in the courts.

If I got a R-nulled T shirt, I'd cut it up into gun cleaning patches. Oh, the irony!

Well Helen, that's exactly what I am afraid of, is that this election might drag on for months...

Thanks for your post.
If the other Arnold supporters were as polite as you, there would be no dust storm kicked up like we have seen on FR these past weeks.
Best of luck to us all.

Thanks. Unfortunately my politeness batting average is only about .778 or so. But I keep trying.

that this election might drag on for monthsOnly if it's really close for Davis. With all the poll results, it looks like Yes easily wins and Schwarzenegger wins. If the margin is large enough, it would look like sour grapes and corruption for the Democrats to challenge the results.
If they had attacked him early in the campaign (or before he declared his candidacy), he might have dropped out (or not run) and Davis would be facing conservatives Simon, Issa, and McClintock. Riordan would sink like a rock, and Bustamante might not have run at all. The recall was always popular after it qualified, so we would have had a conservative replacement. Compared to that possibility, Schwarzenegger should be pleasing to the Democrats.

Neither your polite post, nor Ahhhnold's (pre-recorded) phone call last night have persuaded me to vote for him. Be prepared for some "I told you so's" if Arnold wins and, raises taxes, tries to confiscate your guns, legalizes illegal aliens, welcomes the new "political refugee/imigrant" Yassar Arafat to California with a kiss (and a grope?), turns your back yard into a biosphere, etc...

Sorry I wasn't able to convince you. Here is hoping that Arnold doesn't run left once in office. My bet is that he'll do what Weintraub predicted, which boils down to the following:
- moderate cuts in the budget, but not as much as should be done;
- minimal cuts in public-employee union salary and pension bloat;
- moderate cuts in job-killing regulation (hopefully including SB2); and
- this is the big one (and it's not even a cut): Getting the Bush White House to agree to reimburse California for the marginal net costs -- probably about $12B per year -- of providing social services of all kinds to illegal immigrants. (Rationale, which I agree with, is that (a) Cal. tried to cut off these services, only to be told by a federal court that, NO, it's tantamount to policing immigration, something that only the federal government is allowed to do. So since the feds are at fault for the porous border, the feds should compensate the states like CA, AZ, NM, etc. that get a hugely disproportionate share of the "hit.")
Also very much hoping Arnold will use his charisma and bully pulpit to push several constitutional amendments:
- reinstate Gann limits (and erase all earmarkings now on the books);
- redistricting to assure nonpartisanship and fairness (and a lot more competitive districts!)
- etc.
Plus, Arnold will pick conservative judges in the overwhelming majority of cases. At least Wilson did a pretty good job with that.
Or so I hope, anyhoo.
