Wilson: Bush Not Party to Leak
The Washington Post ^ | 10/6/2003 | Walter Pincus

Posted on 10/05/2003 10:49:40 PM PDT by Utah Girl

Former ambassador Joseph C. Wilson IV said yesterday that the leak of his wife's name as a covert CIA official by Bush administration officials last July could have been for revenge or to undercut his criticisms of the Iraq war or to intimidate other government insiders from talking to journalists.

"I do believe, however, that the president would never have condoned or been party to anything like this," he said yesterday on NBC's "Meet the Press."

The Justice Department has begun an investigation into the unauthorized disclosure of the name of Wilson's wife, Valerie Plame, who served in the CIA's operations division and acted clandestinely under what is called non-official cover. That means she worked in a position not associated with the U.S. government and when overseas on a spy mission was not protected by diplomatic immunity.

Asked whether he thought the leak had endangered his wife, Wilson said on CBS's "Face the Nation" that since the publicity of the Justice Department investigation, "other people" have suggested "perhaps this does make her a target." As a result, he said he and his wife were taking unspecified security precautions.

and will attend a book fair in Germany next week to test the market.

As if there won't be a HUGE market for an anti-Bush book in Germany. Why waste the money on the flight?

And I certainly hope he's not flying on a diplomatic passport. I'm sure he knows it's against the law to fly on that passport to make money.

DUHHHHH!!! You cannot fire the civil servants who have been there --the law won't allow firing just because.

Exactly. And is anybody surprised to find out that Clinton made the vast majority of political appointment civil servants as he was walking out the door.

If I recall correctly, Ashcroft went to the Congress and ASKED if they could remove some of the people in the DOJ that they were worried about.

The answer was NO, so they moved them into supposedly harmless positions.

Of course Wilson KNOWS Bush had nothing to do with it BECAUSE Wilson knows who REALLY leaked the information....It was Wilson himself or another DEMOCRAT, and he now knows that the REAL leaker may get exposed, much to his embarassment.

You do not atack him by wrecking his wife's career at the CIA.

Where's the proof she was a NOC?

How is it possible that a woman can be an undercover agent with the CIA when she has THREE YEAR OLD TWINS????

Are you aware that Mrs. Wilson "outted" herself in 2000 when she donated money to the DNC under her married name, and listed her occupation as a CIA front company that does NOT exist?

Are you aware that covert CIA agents NEVER claim employment at CIA front companies? Are you aware of that???

Clinton fired the federal district attorney's

I'm not criticizing YOU for this as it has been stated repeatedly on FR, but I'd like to correct the record, in the interest of being factually accurate.

At the beginning of each administration, ALL federal attorneys are REQUIRED BY LAW to submit their resignations to the new administration.

Of course, nobody before had replaced ALL of them. It was our first hint of things to come.

All federal district attorneys, not all attorneys who work for the federal government since that would cause the unemployment rate to jump a couple of points.

For those who don't know the fdas are the chief prosecutors in the different districts in the country and are generally appointed with the concurrence of the senators in the respective regions. They are kinda like State's Attorneys or local District Attorneys.

That Wilson could be the source of the leak is not so outlandish. Here is a possible scenario.

Plame's status was, in fact, a tightly guarded secret. But Wilson was not careful. He let it be known that she was his wife. He went to Niger under the auspices of the CIA to investigate the WMD/Yellowcake allegations. And he then discussed his trip quite openly and voclally in the NYT, disclosing both the nature of his trip, his findings, and the fact that we was operating under the guidance of the CIA.

Now, that would be enough to tip me off about Plame if I were something other than a totally breain-dead opposing undercover agent. Thus, Plame's cover was effectively blown to anyone who cared and could connect the dots well before Novak's article. And it was blown by Wilson.

It's too much to hear the administration did this to 'get back' at Wilson's report and criticism, when they have suffered numerous assaults from foes and have never acted like this. This guy is a political hack showing his own malice towards this administration and Rove should think of filing slander suits against Wilson and the media in their continued attempts to make him guilty of this.

Any resemblance between Civil Service employees and civil servants is purely delusionary. LOL. I know what you meant, though.

Exactly, it was his big mouth, and his anti-Bush motivation, that made it EASY for ANYONE to connect the dots.
