Yeah, you're right. As an English major I gotta say the poetry is terrible.

Canada has the lowest defense spending (as a percent of their GDP) of almost any Western country -- certainly they are at the bottom of the NATO countries. For this they should be ashamed. If the author is trying to point out the problems of such paltry spending, then he's got a good point and I'll cut him some slack for his verse.

Why do they need to spend money on defense? During the cold war when soviet missles were targeted at both our countries, they only had to look overhead to see US aircraft paid for by US taxpayers protecting their country. They only had to look out to sea to see the US flag on the ships that were protecting their socialist utopia. I'm confident that if there were attacked by terrorists now we would gladly and unselfishly rush to their aid. I want to like Canadians, I know Canadians that aren't socialists and I respect them, but I'm sick and tired of the hateful crap that comes from their lousy government and their lousy left wing tripe spewing media all the time directed at us.
