SACRAMENTO The last debate before Tuesday's unprecedented California recall election will take place this evening at 5 p.m. at the KPBS studios on the San Diego State University campus.
The debate, sponsored by the League of Women Voters of San Diego County, KPBS and The San Diego Union-Tribune, features three of the four major replacement candidates Democratic Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante, Republican state Sen. Tom McClintock of Thousand Oaks and Green Party candidate Peter Camejo. Gov. Gray Davis' wife, Sharon Davis, is scheduled to represent the governor.
Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger, who has emerged as the front-runner to replace Davis should he be recalled has declined to participate.

I guess they wouldn't give Arnold the questions in advance.

In a democracy, you have to respect people's choices. I wasn't aware that election day had already passed.

Gov. Gray Davis' wife, Sharon Davis, is scheduled to represent the governor. He's sending his wife to debate for him?
To: UnabashedConservative
I know what you mean, but party bosses have already stacked the race against McClintock. I think you give them too much credit. Duf's backroom deal was insignificant compared to Arnold's celebrity and campaign war chest.
The "party bosses" trying to crawl onto the bandwagon are just hoping for spoils.

He's sending his wife to debate for him? At least he is not sending his mommy.

"During the first 20 minutes of the forum, Sharon Davis will answer questions about the recall. For the remaining 70 minutes, the three replacement candidates will field questions from media panelists."

Rove, Parsky, and the party bosses have seen a golden opportunity to stick a RINO into the governor's chair without having to go through a bothersome primary election, where there candidate would be voted down just like Riordan was last year. So they stuck it to the Republican voters: take our RINO or lump it. Very unfortunate.
It wouldn't matter so much if the California governorship weren't such a bully pulpit. Now we'll have RINO Arnold being manipulated like a sock puppet by all the party pros, who would just love to do away with that bothersome pro-life plank and make more money for themselves.

Still over the top with the distortions, I see. Arnold was the first candidate to ask that the questions not be given in advance... he asked weeks before Cruz and Tom joined up together asking for the same.

Oh pooh.. you sound exactly like the press talking about how stupid Bush is.
I wonder if Arnold is the same kind of stupid.
And I doubt that you, and I know Tom McC hasn't amassed a bloody fortune as a shrewd businessman. We need someone to financially keep us from ruin, and the rest of that crap is just that.. crap. Who really cares what his views are on abortion or gay marriage? It's not like he can usurp federal laws.
And your darling conservative Bush and the feds haven't done much for Abortion either, being in office for how long and they are just now pushing through a partial birth ban? That should have been done first day in office and they should be pushing it back further by now.
Change what you can, and stop fussing about the rest.

"Everyone knows that Arnold knows nothing about policy or economics."
Evidence of his understanding of economics might, for rational thinkers, be measured by his net worth. Eight, probably nine figures.
Applying the same standard to McClintock, his net worth is doubtless not over six figures. Career government employee.
Who understands economics? Which one best reflects the American dream?
If you had $100,000 and were to turn it over to one of these men, for say ten years, which would it be?
Do not tell me that an immigrant who came to America with nothing, now has over $100,000,000 35 years later, but knows nothing about economics.

Arnold was the first candidate to ask that the questions not be given in advance... And how Arnold's groupies did howl when Tom did the same.

I have come across the figure of $800,000,000 as Arnold's net worth.
considering that he came to America with $20 and 20 words of English, and MADE HIS FIRST MILLION BEFORE HE EVER ACTED IN A MOVIE, he has done quite well.
Also he has an advanced degree in business.
