President Bush needs a Michael Douglas moment. At the end of the movie, The American President, democratic president, Andrew Sheppard, shows up unexpectedly in the White House press room to answer the charges against his character launched at him by his Republican rival and an overeager press corp. The character charges involved his relationship with a lobbyist he had been dating as a widowed father of a 12 year old girl. Engaging in platitudes about an anti-crime bill vs. an environmental bill that his girlfriend was trying to get passed, notwithstanding, he took on his critics point-blank over the sullying of his relationship with this woman, the second one he loved in his life, and said “He was so busying trying to keep his job, I forgot to do my job.”
