Not everyone falls into your neat, three little groups.
1. He may be totally innocent of having illegally procured drugs. I will shout, "Hurray!"
2. He may be guilty of illegally procuring drugs. I will be extremely disappointed. If he is truly sorry, owns up to it, and does all he can to kick it, he has my support. If he handles it arrogantly, then he's toast in my book.
Everybody makes mistakes. Some have higher consequences than others. Courage comes in facing the consequences, not deflecting or running from them. That's real character.
Lastly, I can forgive someone but that doesn't mean I have to trust them. People have to earn trust - it is valuable. Forgiveness, I can give irregardless of whether you are sorry or not; Trust - you have to earn. IF (and that is a big IF at this point) Rush has illegally procured drugs, earning my trust will take longer than earning my forgiveness.
