(PHILADELPHIA) -- An Ohio-based company that owns amusement parks from California to Pennsylvania says it's dropping its discounts for seniors.
A spokesman for Cedar Faire LP says seniors are more active than they used to be -- and don't need an extra incentive to visit.
But John Schmitt, 72, says the extra cost means he and his wife will probably give up their season pass next season and she loves the roller coaster. Schmitt says at his age, eliminating the senior discount is like taking his bread away.
Other amusement parks say they're happy with the discounts. A spokesman for Busch Gardens says his park is intensifying its marketing toward seniors.
He says the new face of aging in America represents everyone from Mick Jagger to Bill Clinton.

Good!!! The greedy bastards have had a lifetime to accumulate wealth, yet they still want a "discount" while a young family of four has to pay "full fare".
I'm sick of "senior discount". If it were up to me...they would have a "surcharge" tacked on to their purchases!!!
;)

that's right ... make 'em pay FULL PRICE ... and only give them 1/2 as much food but charge regular price ... and make 'em park in the spots furthest from the gate, too ...
[/sarcasm]
they must have learned their marketing techniques from VeriSign ... LOL

LOL! I'd charge them a surcharge just for showing up in Bermuda shorts, over-the-calf dress socks, and brown wing-tips. And, a surcharge for ones with the waistbands of their pants up to their armpits.

Schmitt says at his age, eliminating the senior discount is like taking his bread away. Wait just a freekin' minute. I thought making them pay for their drugs was taking their bread away. And now I find out they're at the (!*!*!*! amusement park riding rollercoasters, getting free medicine, 15% off every Tuesday all over the consumer world, early bird dinners, AND Lil' Rascals free from Medicare? I say, if they want a cheap thrill, take the Lil' Rascal out back, spin around in circles until the early bird dinner is hurled, then hop into the Craftmatic bed for cheap, Medicare-approved Viagra sex. They're just about to go TOO far with their AARP shenanigans.

"young family of four"
Agreed, so long as their taxes don't have to educate your snotnosed rugrats.

"I'm sick of "senior discount". If it were up to me...they would have a "surcharge" tacked on to their purchases"
...I agree with you on the first part of that statement. I too am sick of seeing senior citizen discounts. I am 58 years old and in some establishments that is considered senior citizen.
...What exactly is it that I have accomplished in life to deserve a discount? I have managed to reach the ripe old age of 58 and thats it! Is this an accomplishment that deserves to be rewarded?
...There is no such thing as a free lunch. If they are charging me less that only means someone else is paying more.
...I went to breakfast the other day with my older brother (Democrat)and he said to me, "tell them your age and you'll get a discount" I told him I didn't want a discount and he asked why. I had to say it---I told him if I start trying to get something for nothing people might think I am a democrat.
...While I am on my rant, I wish that the AARP would take me off their mailing list. They have been sending me their garbage since I was 49 years old. One might think they would get the message after 9 years that I am not interested.

Exactly. The elderly in this country have plenty of money. It doesn't much face to give them a break, when a family of four has to pay full price.

What taxes? Most of the geezers live on SS and savings. There taxes are very low.

...Oh, how my heart aches for this poor old man, he has to choose between bread and roller coaster rides!

Agreed...as long as we don't have to pay for your Social Security. Afterall, your generation raised a whole generation of losers.
To: Graybeard58
Ask for more info from AARP. Afterall, the more they spend on mail to you, the less they can lobby the demoncats.

...I am 58 and retired and don't know if I qualify for "geezerhood" but I do know that my taxes are NOT too low nor should they be lowered because of my age whether I am 58 or 108.
