"It's a ridiculous notion to think that by passing more laws, a criminal who has already broken 15 or 20 laws in illegally acquiring a firearm and illegally using a firearm to commit a crime that, all of a sudden, he's going to obey the 21st or 22nd law," Pratt concluded. "It's just ridiculous." It's like Howard Dean's ceding our security to the UN and its effete resolutions.
That's always worked well.

"Since Bush has pledged to sign the expanded Swineslime ban, I don't think that the Republicans are exactly stand up guys on this either."
Do you have any references for that? It was my understanding that he said he would sign an extension of the current AWB, not the new and "improved" version.

I don't know why, but I just have to write down this quote (paraphrasing): "From time to time, the Liberty Tree must be refreshed by the blood of tyrannts and patriots." - Thomas Jefferson.
Now I feel better.

You have my sympathies. Here in PA, the state if fairly moderate, but trending more republican and (other than the new Governmor - Rendell) more conservatie.
In 17 of the last 21 statewide judicial races the pubbies won and there is a good chance of picking up 4 more on the top 2 appellate courts in November. Where I live in Allegheny County, there is only 1 GOP judge out of 60 in the common pleas court system and she was appointed.

- Sweinslime, schemer etc. and the other neo-Nazis in Kongress publicly stated that the ban is too weak, and they want to expand it and make it permanent
- King George II said he would sign a bill making the semi-auto ban permanent if it croses his desk.
- King George II has yet to veto any bill. You figure it out.

From a self-certified cynic, I don't believe he will sign anything more than an extension of what is on the books already, which is what he already said during the campaign in 2000.
He knows what happened to his father when his father broke the "Read my lips, no new taxes" pledge.
He also knows Gore lost Arkansas, West Virginia and Gore's home state of Tennessee because of Gore's reversal of his prior history on gun control.
I believe GWB will make sure that no "improved" AWB is positioned to cross his desk without a "pocket" veto being available to kill it.
I am assuming the president can use a "pocket" veto, which is a political tactic in which the president declines to sign into law bills already passed by Congress, but not at the two thirds ratio needed to over-ride a presidential veto, and usually done at the end of the term of Congress.
I also expect that if GWB is re-elected, then forget about the "new tone".

I gotta say that I hope I'm wrong on this, but GWB hasn't exactly done anything for gun owners other than a little lip service about the 2nd amendment being an individual right which even the (11th circuit court?) courts said it is. He signs everything that crosses his desk, even the most egregious spending bills that the likes of scum like Kennedy approve of so I don't have much hope for the boy vetoing gun control.

The stolen FBI files are out. Our scouts must be.
We need more armed citizens at Concord Bridge.
The Clintons' DNC-Politburo has blocked appelate judge votes in committee so there is a backlog/vaccuum. Prewritten decisions to rewrite from the bench through reinterpretation of our Bill of Rights' "living" Constitution "compelling State interests" are ready once the '04 election is stolen or twisted.
The terror war may be in a lull by UBL & Co. so that Clintons' DNC-Politburo wins.
We citizens must stand to defend our RATIFIED Constitution or we will not have it under the socialist GW or anyone else.

It was the Fifth Circuit Court which involved a physician named Emerson who had violated a restraining order, courtesy of the unconstitutional Lautenberg(sp?) amendment with its ex post facto provisions, IIRC. They said in dicta, i.e. opinion appended to the text of their decision that the 2nd Amendment recognizes an individual right, not just a collective right such as militia, National Guard, etc. The SCOTUS looked at the case, declined to take it, and it was sent back to the lower court in Texas, IIRC.
Take heart. I believe the pubbies in Congress won't let this AWB get to his desk. This act of GWB with no vetoes is part of his "new tone". If he's re-elected, I'm sure we'll see vetoes. Just say your prayers.
BTW, does your handle "from occupied ga" come from the war of northern aggression or what?

BTW, does your handle "from occupied ga" come from the war of northern aggression or what? Partially, but also from the hordes of illegal hispanics (my home county has the highest hispanic immigrant population of any county in the entire USA) that have overrrun the Atlanta area and the bedwetting liberal soccer mom yuppies that vote for tax increases and democrats. There are damn few conservatives left here. Somedays I feel like I went to sleep in the South and woke up in NY City sometimes like I woke up in Mexico City. Both options suck.

Since I'm currently living in the Bronx, having been a former resident of Columbus, GA while stationed at Fort Benning, I find your claim about your county hard to believe.
Being a native New Yorker and living here for all of my life except almost 9 years on active duty, now you know how I feel. I can't wait to leave.
Let's pray for each other.

, I find your claim about your county hard to believe. Believe it. Although it was posted in the Atlanta Urinal/Constipation last week as though it were a good thing, 45% of the county population is hispanic - 20 years ago it was probably close to 0.5%
Driving through Norcross on any day of the week makes you think that you've wandered into a Pancho Villa look alike contest. The billboards are in Spanish as are most of the signs (those that aren't in Korean) Most of the males wear baseball caps backwards (those who don't wear Stetsons), and you see Mexican flags all over the place. One of the biggest cab companies is Called Mexico City cab company. I could go on and on, but this place has gone to the coyotes.
I lived in the Bronx for a couple of years back in th '70s , and it was the worst place I ever lived. I would rather live in this immigrant $hithole than move back to NY. But, Hey, we have great Mexican restaurants.

The push is on. The next year is going to see dirt and sleaze the like of which has never been seen in this country before,s with our most basic of all freedoms on the line. SCOTUS is back in session, and should be issuing a ruling on CFR soon...hold your breath and pray for sanity to prevail. The CommieLibs have launched their Hush Rush campaign, with Hannity, Savage, Boortz, et al on their lists. If they can demagogue the AWB issue enough over the next year, the Pubbies will trip over one another to be first in line to sign and extension bill. It's our job to make sure our so-called "leaders" don't break and run without firing a proverbial shot for freedom. Let's get to it, FReepers...if the AWB continues drawing breath after next Spetember, our RKBA won't for much longer.
As always, thanks for the ping, Joe. Keep up the good work!

I read recently that Miami-Dade is now officially more than 50% foreign born...the first county in the nation to achieve that highly dubious "honor". What the hell is happening to our nation? It's looking more and more like Rome every day...but who will be our Nero?

Miami-Dade County went for Jeb twice, thanks to Cuban-Americans. Many of the foreign born down there (I lived there for three years) are wealthy or middle class, being that it is an international business center.
Then again, there are many poor Haitians and Hondurans down there, but the former rarely vote and the latter can't vote (yet).
In terms of liberalism, Broward and Palm Beach are far worse and Orange (Orlando area) is getting to be just as bad.
