Press release agrees to affidavit challenge, strikes back at Blackmon 'innuendo'
Lt. Gov. Amy Tuck on Thursday said she will sign an affidavit that she's never had an abortion.
Tuck, a Republican, also blasted her Democratic opponent, state Sen. Barbara Blackmon, for her "personal attacks and innuendo" that Tuck has had an abortion.
Blackmon on Monday proposed that she and Tuck each take an oath they had not had an abortion.
"The answer to Barbara's question is that I can sign an affidavit affirming that I have never had an abortion," Tuck said in a news release Thursday.
Campaign manager Michael Goode, when reached Thursday for clarification, said Tuck would sign the affidavit "in the near future."
Tuck said earlier that she has "seen a lot of low-road politics in my time, but this beats all."
Blackmon released a statement that said "until both candidates for the office of lieutenant governor ... have signed an affidavit attesting to the fact that she has not had an abortion, I will have nothing further to say on this subject."
"I have never had an abortion. Just as I made the choice of life, I believe that each person has that right," said Blackmon, mother of two sons.
Tuck and Blackmon face each other in the Nov. 4 general election, the first time two women have competed for statewide office.

In Other Words:
"I am spectacularly unqualified for this position, so I'm flinging ad hominems at my opponent and using distraction so you stupid people who are going to vote for me anyway won't notice that I just can't do this job, but want the position even though I will probably screw up the whole thing."

Odd that a Democrat criticize Amy Tuck for having an abortion. Normally Democrats honor women who have abortions.

I'm pro-life, but this is stupid. It is a legal procedure. What business is it of ours whether she did or didn't? Running for office shouldn't mean that your entire life is public.

Tuck said earlier that she has "seen a lot of low-road politics in my time, but this beats all." I'll sure have to agree with that.

I'm disappointed that Tuck would sign this affidavit. I would tell Blackmon to "stick it" and that she could either believe me or not. I wouldn't stoop to her level by honoring her hideously crude request in any way.
Also, if Tuck had an abortion, she should come clean and say: "I did it and it was the worst decision I ever made in my life. I regret it every day."
How could Blackmon respond to such a statement?

I totally agree with you. I don't understand why Tuck responded in this way at all. I'd tell her to "stuff it" as it's none of her, or anyone else's, business.
Even more astounding is that Blackmon would issue such a challenge at all. After all, it's the dimbulbs who put abortion rights, and privacy for women who choose to exercise those rights, above all that is sacred.

Excellent! I would pay good money to see Blackmon's response to that.

Let's make sure and clarify that it seems highly likely that Tuck DID NOT have an abortion. That is the important thing. Blackmon made a vicious, nasty, personal attack, and it wasn't true. If my prognosticator's nose is correct, I will say that Tuck will win with 71%.
To: WKB
"personal attacks and innuendo"That's all the Dems are good for! I'm glad Tuck made the statement she did.

I don't for one minute think Tuck had an abortion.
I am shocked that Blackmon made such an outrageous challenge, and am very surprised Tuck didn't tell her to "stuff it".
The dems are so pro-choice, and so concerned with that "choice" being only between the woman, her family, and her doctor, that Blackmon has shown her hypocrisy in spades by publicly issuing this challenge.
