Warren Moon Says Limbaugh's "Comments Were Racist", and That He "Has Always Said Racist Things"

If speaking openly and frankly is now defined as carrying the Conservative banner and ESPN expects kissie butt and wishy washy commentary from it's employees, they hired the wrong guy in Rush. They knew Rush tells it like it is when they hired him-how stupid of the management of that company to hire him anyway.

Thats true, but McNabb is the posterboy for the media lovefest. To what degree he is successful, its because of his athletic ability to escape and beat defenses with his legs.

Warren Moon was born in Los Angeles not Canada. He did play a number of years in the Canadian Football League before his NFL career but that's it.

Just because we acknowledge that a hypocritical double standard exists, doesn't mean that one willingly walks right into the trap.

IMO double standards need to be torn down not given abeyance. To go along with them only reinforces their existence.

It takes courage to do whats right in the face of adverse consequences, that is the stuff heroes most of the heroes of history are made of. Those who just go along to get along are rarely admired, and with good reason.

You are wrong again. He gave his opinion on FOOTBALL that McNabb was getting preferential coverage in the media, when he is not that great, due to the media wanting him to succeed because of his race in that position.

Criticism of McNabb is ignored because that would blow the efforts of sports media to destroy the old complaints of why there weren't many black quarterbacks. As other sports reporters have now written, Rush just said publicly what they have always said privately.

I see nothing wrong with that. It's ESPN's decision and I respect that. But to act like "Rush deserved it because he said blah, blah, blah" is borderline bigotry and offensive in itself.

I guess it all depends upon what Rush's personal motivations were. If his goal was to help tear down double standards by driving home his point about McNabb, to hell with the consequences, then good for him! I guess he got the job done. But if his goal was to work at ESPN for more than four weeks, then I'd say he made an avoidable error in judgement.

Amen, Libs, and one other thing. Warren Moon, according to the title of this thread, said "he has always said racist things".

Challenge to Mr. Moon: has he ever listened to Mr. Limbaugh's show? If so, I would like to have just one example of Mr. Limbaugh's 'racist' comments.

Now, that statement I agree with in general, I just think he could have left McNabb out of the picture. Sure, the NAACP is shaking down the NFL. But it isn't McNabb's fault, and I think that is where I struggle. It seemed Rush, in how he worded it, put the blame or fault on Donovan. Mind you, I think he is overrated, but as a QB in general. I don't think I can recall Rush ever making racist comments. BTW did you know Donovan is a 3 time Pro Bowler, and League MVP (2000, or was it 2001?)

IMO Rush's error in judgement was not saying what he believed to be the truth, but rather, he should not have resigned. And if ESPN wanted to fire him make them do it.

Then open up the question-can Americans talk openly about race or if they do so will they have to constantly worry they will lose their jobs for it? And if so is there really "free speech" on the subject?

I agree with you in principle. I just think you've got to pick your battles carefully and understand the potential consequences. Was Donovan McNabb a battle worth fighting? I don't think so. Too much capital for too little return. Nothing's going to change because of this. It's not a cause that people are going to rally behind. If you're going to take a stand that could potentially harm you, make it something that can really effect change. Or at least spend your capital on something more important than a debateable opinion that someone is overrated because they're black.

I still think this whole thing could have been handled better, and I lay the blame at the feet of the bigwigs of ESPN. They hired Rush and they should have had the nards to support him, even if they knew of this other allegation cropping up. They will regret how they handled this-ratings-wise. Buncha girly-men, I tell ya!

Thanks y'all for being here tonight; I think highly of Rush and am highly suspicious of how both of these stories have become major news stories. After all, Rush is 'just' a talk radio host.

I disagree, once the bullet is out of the gun you have to engage the battle or lose the war.

Its something that liberals know intuitively and for some reason conservatives do not.

Example: Jesse Jackson said hollywood was racist a few years back, the response? they didn't apologize, they didn't institute some stupid quota nonsense, they didn't stop the Oscars, they didn't run around trying to prove they aren't rally racist. no, their response? Screw you Jessie, get lost. Unfortuinately this is response that conservatives should have but never seem to.

Rush should have stayed, said he did nothing wrong, made them fir him if they wanted him out and make it all about free speech. Instead he opted not to fight and so the liberals win--free speech is all the less free, and he and all conservatives are once again (soon to be) slandered as evil racists.
