[history]
Bush administration officials yesterday angered lawmakers by refusing to take a position on illegal aliens obtaining U.S. driver's licenses and avoiding questions about its decision to recognize Mexican identification cards.
Officials testifying before the House Select Committee on Homeland Security said they are reviewing what documentation is secure and reliable, but evaded direct questions on the matricula consular cards now accepted by California and New Mexico to obtain driver's licenses.

A frustrated Rep. John Shadegg, Arizona Republican, responded: "It seems to me the administration had better get a policy, pretty quick." Yes, they d**n well better. I can't post anything more, I'm that angry.

This isn't surprising. Bush is in re-eclection mode and is wooing the Hispanic vote.

I generally support George Bush, but this issue has my blood boiling. Condoning illegal immigration is so obviously and blatantly wrong on so many levels. There are few select people who profit from it - while huge economic burdens placed on the American Taxpayer. I sincerely hope that recent trends indicate a grassroots revolt to force the US government to live up to its responsibilities. I'm more than ready to join it!

If President Bush wants to be reelected, he needs to throw Rove and Fox overboard, and crack down on illegal immigration NOW. U.S. Citizens are getting increasingly angry about the government looking the other way on this stuff.

Even Arnold Schwarzenegger has come out against these artificial ID programs for Mexicans. Bush is going wrong on this issue. Just like he is wrong on The Prescription Drug Panderation Act.

I have heard that twenty or so more countries are lining up this kind of card for their colonists as well. My guess is that they are waiting for the federal government to appear totally paralyzed before they jump into the game. Because if you allow Mexicans to use a false ID then how can you stop the rest of the world's migrants from using their "Go Past Go" card as well.

This is totally assinine. There should be no drivers licenses for illegals, no in state tuition for illegals, and no acceptance of Mexican ID cards. Cards from Mexico? Give me a frickin' break. It's easy enough to get a fake ID in the US, let alone Mexico.
The Bush administration is AWOL on this one.

I generally support George Bush, but this issue has my blood boiling.Well, without an ID how are they gonna qualify for their $25000 downpayment grant?
I'm begining to think there are anarchists with a more coherent conservative domestic policy than Bush's.

There are few select people who profit from it The politicians get votes and business gets cheap labor. And you know what the taxpayers get.

I've had it with all politicians and the phoney political TV entertainer pundits.
I always thought people who told me all politicians were self serving were ignorant and uninformed on the issues. I see how naive I was.

I was working on it while you were posting to me, (although the newest two aren't working yet, need more editing)

Bush administration officials yesterday angered lawmakers by refusing to take a position on illegal aliens obtaining U.S. driver's licenses and avoiding questions about its decision to recognize Mexican identification cards. Its hard to believe that President Bush can thumb his nose at the millions of jobless law-abiding, (former)tax-paying Americans that have and will lose their jobs to illegal aliens from Mexico.
But here is the proof...
Totally out of touch with the average American working man and woman and well on his way to being a one term President.

I totlally agree. Illegals drive down wages. In 1982 my father was a carpenter and made about $15 an hour. Now with the influx of cheap illegals a carpenter is luck to make $15 an hour.
