BLITZER: He's at the center of this storm, the controversy that is raging here in Washington. The naming of the CIA operative appeared in his column back on July 14. That popular columnist syndicated across the country by "The Chicago Sun-Times." And he's well known, of course, to our CNN viewers as the co-host of "CROSSFIRE."

An interesting exchange. Novak admits he made a mistake when he used the word "operative". Makes him look like a journalistic schmuck IMO. But he resolutely says that no one contacted him from the WH.
For your discussion. The formatting is a bit confusing--Blitzers name is left off some of the questions he asked--it's as CNN has posted it.

pinging at your request. MJY, your observations about the counterproliferation office have some grounds here IMO.

I would like to know how many Clinton people have been inserted in that non-proliferation group at the CIA. I would further like to know if they have investigated proliferation in the same manner as Wilson's trip to Niger...asking a few questions of officials and then reporting that nothing is happening. I also would like to know if some of them are receiving hush money on the side.

NOVAK: Ambassador Wilson, I'm not going to call him a liar. LOL
Thank you and good luck.
I assume this comment is from Blitzer. Of course, his unspoken words are, "You're going to need it."

So far, what I'm getting out of all of this is that there is a partisan catfight taking place in Washington, D.C., and the leftists are using it as another way to bash Bush.
Novak's pussy-footing around semantics and procedure makes him look more like a hack journalist that the respected one his reputation suggests.
Also, other reports that cast doubt on this whole stupid story suggest that Ms. Wilson, who is 40, has been with the CIA for 3 decades. If we do the math, then that means she was recruited when she was around the age of 10. Something doesn't add up.
I suspect that, as more of this story sees the light of day, the Dems will do everything in their power to make it go away; particularly because it smacks of a Dem smear campaign against Bush.
One of the most interesting and under-reported aspects of this story is Bush's response to a DOJ investigation. He praised their competence and said that he looked forward to their investigation. His predecessor would have denied that there was sufficient justification for a formal investigation.
The difference between the two is compelling.

I was listening to C_Span on my way into work this morning and the host read an article saying that the DOJ has also requested the phone records from the State Departmant and the CIA including Joe and Valerie Wilson's

Turn this entire STORY 180 degrees and substitute Clinton for Bush and Democrat for Republican and the MEDIA'S STORY would be about a REPUBLICAN AMBASSADOR in the CLINTON administration possibly giving the administration BOGUS intelligence and/or the Republican ambassador publicly smearing the POTUS and his administration by personally outing his REPUBLICAN CIA wife. Think about it!!

Ha! I will bet there are some interesting calls in the Wilson's records, as I am sure you will agree.

On another thread somebody recalled the statement made by Clinton spokesman when Bush took office: "We've left a lot of timebombs for the Bush administration"...
This could be one of but many.

I would bet cash money there were a few calls to the BBC, coincidentally about the time of the David Kelly flap.
I also bet there are calls to Chappaqua and the DNC.

True. However, they were back here in the states when the Novak story ran, weren't they?
Boy, I wish I could be in on this investigation!

Now why did that post twice?

David Kelly came to my mind late last night too. Without trying to sound like a conspiracy-mongerer, it's always struck me that the publicized explanation for Kelly's "suicide" was actually pretty weak. I won't even address the topic of the suicide method here.
If Kelly knew that major moles and leakers were involved in the uranium reports situation he may have felt that it was just a matter of time until some truth came out about it. Just a matter of time until it was shown he was embroiled in something far bigger than the "sexing up" of a news story. THAT would be a greater explanation for suicide IMO. OTOH, if Kelly knew about moles, it might have caused somebody to think he was too big of a potential liability.
Ok, I'm now taking my tinfoil hat back to it's place in the attic trunk. But when you factor Kally and the BBC into the equation, it does pose some interesting questions.
