Great, we are now making policy based on POLLS..
I have a few polls I would love to take as soon as this Special Council is announced.. You can expect The Ten Commandments to be erected in every newsroom in the nation. Roe V Wade after the 3 week gestation, to be overturned. All Gays to be shot if they touch any school kid! ... heheheheh ....This should be a blast!

Put me down for the special counsel majority. If nobody did anything wrong, then nobody has anything to fear...

More time and money wasted on an investigation. That is the way our government has been run for over 20 years now. Longer if we look at Watergate.
Payback, that's all it ever is. And this one is a very TRIVIAL issue, it is a NON-story, but we will hear it every day, see poll after poll, hear how Pres. Bush is no longer trusted, it's the "new Watergate" (again).
Why did it take them so long? I sure question the timing, the Novak story is a couple of months old.

Dittos on that!
btw, isnt this a 'push poll' ? ...
This inside the beltway story doesnt have 4 in 10 who even know about it, how can 8 in 10 call this matter 'serious'? .. lemme guess: the push-pollers told them it was a possible federal felony and then asked if in their opinion it was 'serious'. hmmm.

According to the ABC News/Washington Post
poll:
2. The U.S. Justice Department has opened an investigation into whether someone in the White House broke the law by identifying a former diplomat's wife as an undercover CIA agent. The former diplomat claims this was done to punish him for criticizing U.S. policy on Iraq. Have you heard or read anything about this situation, or not?

Eight in 10 in the poll said they consider the investigation of the claim "serious" and almost that many, 72 percent, said it's likely that someone in the White House leaked the classified information. There is less evidence linking the White House to these leaks than there is linking Saddam to 9/11. Yet the media was oh so concerned when 70% of Americans 'erroneously' believed the Saddam 9/11 link (of course the media conveniently would never mention certain facts that justify suspicions of the Saddam 9/11 link).
Will the media show the same concern and dampen the flames of unwarranted suspicion here where there is no evidence? Will PIGS FLY?

Ah 68% on 9/30 meaning the Tuesday poll was well-timed right after the media blowup on it.
... and the followup question should be:
"What did HelenThomas/CNN/ABC/NYTimes/Krugman/Dean/Pelosi/WashPost spoonfeed you? Did you buy it?"
This was a quick-reaction-poll to see how effective this media attack blitz was. Kind of like how candidates poll to see how 30 second attack ads do at tearing down an opponent. Not a push poll. My bad.

Well, it's still something of a push poll because if your read further down the list of questions, more people think this matter serious than had even heard about it before the poll. Ergo, the only basis some of them could have to think it serious was the wording of the questions they were asked.. In any case, the reality is that the media is not letting this one go anytime soon, and that's who's gonna shape public opinion unless the White House figures out some way to get ahead of this. So far, they're definitely floundering..

Indeed. Thanks for the heads up!

What can the WH do? They are innocent, its a concocted scandal and nonissue (read the Novak piece - *CIA* told him who she was, if any head should roll, then, its CIA), enemies demagogue them with slanders, and the press laps it up without questioning evidence, veracity, or motives of the anti-Bush attackers.
Protesting innocence loudly can sure look like guilt when wrapped by a nightly news segment. SO they cant do that.
They are cooperating.
The best Bush can do is create new news and move on.

I have no idea what they can do since I don't know the important 'details' of the situation, but they need to figure out a way to get ahead of this. So far, it's rather clear they were caught by surprise when this broke and haven't done a very good job of catching up with the flow of events..

That is not how it will work. The dims don't care if anyone did anything - Novak is already saying it's much ado about nothing. They want the media circus for the entire election year.
