"Mass Immigration: Suicide Pill of the GOP"
- Certainly for the old traditional conservative parts of the GOP but it's thought to be a God send for the new center-right/center-left "compassionate" GOP.

So why did Dole and Kemp not get immigrant support?

That does seem to be the thinking doesn't it. What the "compassionate GOP" seems to forget is that without the conservative base they have no chance. They can't "out-liberal" the true libs in the dim party, so neither conservatives nor liberals will vote for them, the best they can do is try to play the old game of "talk conservative & vote liberal" in hopes of suckering in enough conservatives. That game has been played, but the conservative base is getting wise to it and before long they'll just sit out the election or vote 3rd party.

Pat's right on the money here. He's been saying the same thing for 10 years, but with the economy in the tank his message is finally being taken seriously.

If GW doesn't want to suffer the same fate as his father he'd better stop supporting this "open border" policy he seems to love.
