Call him Al Gore, media baron. The former vice president is close to striking a $70 million deal to acquire Newsworld International, a tiny cable network owned by French media giant Vivendi Universal, media sources said.
Gore and his backers want to turn the digital channel into a liberal-leaning network. His partners include ex-Democratic fund-raiser Joel Hyatt and media investment banker Steve Rattner, who's said to be lining up financing.
Carried in just 20 million homes, NWI airs newscasts from around the world, including reports from the Canadian Broadcasting Co. The net is part of Vivendi Universal Entertainment, the show biz empire that's about to be acquired by NBC.
Reps for Vivendi and Gore declined to comment.

Citation please. From what I understand, that silly story was an invention of Declan McCullagh and his friends at Heritage. I've never seen a reference to where Gore said anything like that.

Well, at least ol' algore got himself a JOB!

What he said was: During my service in the United States Congress I took the initiative in creating the Internet.

Shoot, when I read the headline on this I thought maybe he was finally going to get rid of those tacky Radio Shack aerials he's got hanging all over his roof.
To: PBRSTREETGANG
Al Gore doesn't even know how cable TV gets on his television set. Silly, Al invented cable TV!

It's a lot easier and less stuffy than saying, "he said he took the initiative in creating the Internet."

However, it isn't true.

Depends on what your definition of isn't is.

This is channel 366 on DirecTV. It needs something!
To: SwinneySwitch
The problem is that the story has been repeated so many times that most people think he said he "invented the Internet," but he didn't. Declan McCallaugh did.
To: Am I Blue?
I took the initiative in creating the Internet = I invented the Internet.

If you say so, then I guess you must believe that. Here are a few resources that you can use to support your position:

This is channel 366 on DirecTV. It needs something! Problem here. Of the 20 million network's potential viewers, 11 million are via DirecTV. However - a big however - Rupert Murdoch is buying DirecTV. How long will Murdoch put up with Algore's trash being broadcast on his satellite system?

Wasn't a Rattner behind the attempted PCing of the fireman statue meant to commemorate the flag-raising at Ground Zero?

That's him. Rattner wanted a PC statue of firemen at Ground Zero. But his sister is even worse.
Remember Ellen Ratner? She said "it would help the Democrats if the war went badly."
This Demoscum later apologized....but some said it was not heartfelt.
