I'll try to avoid sarcasm but there was no World's Fair in Chicago in 1964. (I did find lots of pages that said it debuted in Chicago but since there was NO fair in Chicago that year it's another example of Internet crap.)
According to Ford's web site - From a cached Google page - (I'm too lazy to find the new page if Ford still has it. A Google search for "new york world's fair mustang" shows many pages referencing this)
"Happy Anniversary, Mustang
NEW YORK, April 16, 2003Nearly 40 years after the original long hood, short deck "pony car" was unveiled on April 17, 1964 at the World's Fair in Queens, Ford Division today returned to New York City to unveil a special 40th Anniversary Special Edition Mustang at the New York International Auto Show, along with a limited production SVT Mustang "MystiChrome" Cobra."

Thank you for your restraint. I was quoting from a website:
http://mustangmaniacs.stangnet.com/about.html whose link was provided in the thread. Since this was intended to be an entertaining thread and not a thesis, I was not inclined to spend a great amount of time checking out information given on other sites.
