Translation: Since we lack the conviction and courage to beat the Democrats on principle, we will join them and endorse a de facto Democrat. An ordinary Republican, hearing House's comment, can reasonably conclude that the party stands for nothing except winning. In which case, why does the state Republican party exist at all? Why doesn't it just merge with the California Democrats? Then it could win every election.Oh no, don't give them any bright ideas.
I think if the Democrates had the SLIGHTEST bit of respect for the CA GOP, they would accept this offer that was no doubt already made...
Course the old saying "you respect somebody who kisses your a$$"
We should almost pity the logic needed for this "we wanna win" strategy. It must be so hard thinking of reasons to contradict your own shrill partisanship...on a daily basis.

(That's pre-election bogus, Arnold Schwarzenegger.)

Imagine if the Democrats won an election with a candidate who made vague liberal sounds from time to time, but decried abortion, viewed the homosexual agenda as a cultural menace, supported tax cuts and limited government, rejected affirmative action, called the Greens "left-wing crazies," consulted with Michael Reagan regularly, and had once given money to Alan Keyes. What a great point. The radical left owns the Democrat Party, lock, stock and smoking barrels. They would oppose such a thing with all their power. There are a handful of pro-life Dem Congressmen, but no chief executive as far as I know.

In which case, why does the state Republican party exist at all? Why doesn't it just merge with the California Democrats? Then it could win every election. Another great question. I would contend that a truly conbservative Republican has yet to run a good campaign in California's modern era. From all I heard Simon's campaign was a disaster, and he came within 7.

"McClintock scares the hell out of the Republican establishment, because he represents fundamental change and they don't want that," said the GOP activist. "When Tom had a good chance of winning last year in the Controller's race, they didn't lift a finger to help him." There you have it - in this man's opnion, a corrupt party establishment that is comfortable with the scraps the Dems give them.
