HOW MUCH TIME DOES GRAY DAVIS HAVE TO LEAVE?

Here is a snipet from the article, which was originally in the L.A. TIMES.
"Under state law, election officials have until Nov. 15 39 days after the election to complete the certification process."
The big questions will be -- How long will Davis be allowed to remain in office after the election, and how much damage will he be able to do?

I certainly hope they will complete their certification promptly.
You are right, Davis can still do a lot of damage.

Next question: How will he leave? Will it be in a White Bronco slow speed chase or will he be stuffed into a cargo van like Billy Dale?

(Why did DemocRATS allow a perjuring rapist to remain in the Oval Office?)

"No one is certain what would happen if the certification hasn't happened by then. If the unofficial tallies suggest that Davis has been recalled, he may resign his office before the election results are certified. In that case, Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante would automatically become governor until the election process was complete."

I'd take a guess and say that Davis stays in office for twenty three days until the last court challenge of the election results is finished and Arnold is sworn in. In the mean time, he'll be rather busy.. Expect pardons, commuting of sentences, exective directions, plus some snap gaming compacts with the tribes. I don't know if the legislature has anything left of the state to give away, but if they do, expect a few quick bills as well.
Davis has NEVER lost an election, ever. People have written his political obits more often than any other politican, yet he has beaten the odds and come out a winner. (A loser in my opinion...) The revenge he will do will make the campaign giveaways look like nothing special.

That's just what we need! (/sarcasm)
But if Arnold wins, I guess we can get through a week or two more of Davis/Bustamante. Much better, than having to go through 3 or 7 more years of them respectively.

When he was re-elected, I'm sure Davis thought he was on a fast track for either VP or a run for the White House. How his political fortunes have changed.

As much as Davis reportedly hates Cruz, I don't think we will be so lucky as to be rid of both of them by the middle of November. (If Cruz became gov for a week, he couldn't go back to Lt. Gov could he?)
Who would Arnold appoint as the new Lt. Gov? Jamie Lee Curtis? Rob Lowe? Dennis Miller?

Cruz would be acting governor but would not give up his Lt. Gov position.

Thanks. That's, unfortunately, what I figured. When Arnold wins the election, will Cruz stay in that job do you think?

Indeed, Cruz will stay. In fact, California gives the Lt. Governor a great deal of power if the governor is out of the state. Cruz may well come back and run for guv, although he may have sunk his own ship with RAT hacks in leadership.

You're right, he'll stay. He no longer has prospects. He'll have to use this time left in office to drum up business. The past two months have been yet another classic case of 'not knowing your audience'.. Dixie Chicks Syndrome.
