Jason Sorens said over on the FSP forums that this article is "wrong" and he has contacted the Guardian editors. I'm sure the characterization of the project is wrong, I know enough people who are part of it and none are motivated primarily by a desire to use drugs legally. I don't think he is either confirming or denying that NH has been chosen. Well know in a few hours one way or another. If it's NOT N.H. one news source has a lot of egg on their face.

They cited Playboy as a main reason why the group is successful. That should have been the first red flag. Whenever they take one event that is just one of many equal events and they make that into the crux, then you know where the editor stands.

Not that they actually CARE about that. (c8

OK, I should adopt Lazamataz's tagline (posting without reading since 3/25/1999) Could you give the link to the actual thread where the Sorens stated so.

In all reality, there are thousands of men who can pick up and leave their lives in New England and Quebec and move to New Hampshire. Once UNH is known as FSP Uni, the sex and drugs crowd that goes to UV Burlington and other Vermont and Maine and Upstate Colleges will all in the future be headed for the FSP Uni's of NH. This (publicly funded higher-ed) has never been mentioned, to my knowledge.

I haven't signed up, but I already have friends and family who live or own property in NH or Western Maine just so they can live free. A decision of NH is anti-climatic, personally.

"none are motivated primarily by a desire to use drugs legally."

Well, one is that we know of.

The rest have to know that drug users/sellers/manufacturers will be attracted to the state. And prostitutes. And casinos. And pornographers. And gays (though there's nothing wrong with that, to paraphrase).

The article had it right: "... fringe cult fantasies of a disorganised shower of anarchists and internet geeks." Reminds me of the commandos enacting a resolution in Life of Brian:

LORETTA: I agree. It's action that counts, not words, and we need action now.
COMMANDOS: Hear! Hear!
REG: You're right. We could sit around here all day talking, passing resolutions, making clever speeches. It's not going to shift one Roman soldier!
FRANCIS: So, let's just stop gabbing on about it. It's completely pointless and it's getting us nowhere!
COMMANDOS: Right!
LORETTA: I agree. This is a complete waste of time.
JUDITH: They've arrested Brian!
REG: What?
COMMANDOS: What?
JUDITH: They've dragged him off! They're going to crucify him!
REG: Right! This calls for immediate discussion!
