Rob Enderle, principal analyst for the Enderle Group, is saying today that the Linux community needs to think strategically and move against the real threat that SCO represents - fear, uncertainty, and doubt. “The community must encourage more companies to indemnify customers and stop fertilizing SCO's efforts,” according to Enderle.

In Enderle’s view, the letter from the Linux community to SCO sent last week fails to accomplish anything – and may even, says Enderle, run the risk of increasing SCO’s “short-term chances of successfully getting funding from large corporate Linux users.”

"Nonsense" is right. Indemnification never came up before $CO's silly lawsuit. And it isn't needed now -- $CO cannot legally sue end users who are abiding by their contract (GPL).

We saw what happened when HP pulled their self-serving stunt. $CO almost immediately spun it around like we knew it would.

HP's actions are driving the Linux industry towards a licensing program. In other words, Linux is not free.

Indemnification merely feeds the $CO FUD monster. The way to combat the monster is to kill it. Period.

I think the best way to combat the monster would be a GPL based countersuit against UnixWare's and OpenUnix's "Linux Kernel Personality" module that would require SCO to open THAT code in a court of law. Any takers for bets that there is GPL code in it? ;c)

I must say, it's hilarious to see the Linux community get its panties in a bunch over this SCO suit. Talk about a waste of time. Now you know what MS went through with the DOJ suit...

It seems to me that the DOJ trial and even more were in order when we see the depths to which Bill Gates and Microsoft are willing to stoop in order to mantain their world desktop monopoly.
