[history]
Republican Party leaders endorsed Arnold Schwarzenegger for governor Monday, a move to unite behind a single candidate that angered supporters of Republican rival Tom McClintock.
"Tom McClintock has been a strong member of the party," said Mario Rodriguez of San Clemente, vice chairman of the state party governing board. "But the numbers were not there for him."

The Bloombergization of the West
Brought to you by the CA GOP
Just Win , Baby!!!
Schwarzenegger's positions on abortion, gun control, gays and other social issues are more moderate than McClintock's - and those of many Republicans. But party leaders said they want to defeat the Democrats. (Never mind the demRats are self-destructing, and the CA GOP is following suit.. How ironic.)

It's way past time for McClintock to pull out of the race. Does he care more about himself or about the future of California? Unless he pulls out, it's all about him, baby.

It's their state party and they can pick whomever they want, but it sure says alot about their core beliefs and their stamina in defending them.

I think it is all about principles. It is not selfish to stand up for what is right regardless of if you lose an election. We could all pretend that we are really Democrats and win a lot of elections but at what cost? We become like those we despise in the long run.
To: NormsRevenge
These losers who are the ones who been blowing
it in election after election think they should
dictate the Republicans voters who they should support?
Their endorsement of Arnold is another good reason
to support McClintock.
The entire lot of them needs to be thrown out and
some decent people put in their places for a change.

At this point it is becoming a bit absurd. Mcc runs the risk of making the conservatives look a bit ridiculous and irrelevant. Especially if Arnold wins without any conservative support. Of all the battles for conservatives to wage, this one seems unworthy. Too bad there isn't so much conservative passion for other issues.

From the article:

Who's taking nominations for the "Understatement of the Year" award? I think we have a really solid candidate here.

It's looking more like a wake for a once grand political organization to me. I sure am glad Reagan can't comprehend this happening to a state he worked so hard to save in his day.

"I think it is all about principles. It is not selfish to stand up for what is right regardless of if you lose an election."
It's not so much selfish as it is dumb. In a two-party system you are almost always going to elect either a Democrat or a Republican as a binary choice. By damaging the chances of the leading Republican to win, all that you are doing is hurting your country/state and your fellow Republicans by helping the Democrat to win (as Ross Perot helped Bill Clinton to beat George Bush Sr.).
This "it's about principles" is that same self-destructive stuff as the "I'd rather be right than be president" nonsense. You believe that nonsense and you won't be president - or governor - and neither will anyone else from your party, either.
Mac cannot win this election. All Mac can do by staying in is to help elect Cruz Bustamente. Your choices in Lalaland are Davis, Arnold, or Cruz...and two of those choices are awful, and the third one, Arnold, may well be a bad choice. But, regardless, he is not only the best chance we have, he is the ONLY chance we have as Republicans.
Mac's supporters need to wake up and realize that this is an election, not a philosophical debate.

Here in Orange co Calif the country club republicans tried their best to shove down an airport. The harder they tried the more resistant the people became. It lost after every conceivable manuver to get it done. I view this as being the same only this time it's bringing out the David Drier's of the party to boost the NWO candidate. This just makes it all the more to show that true conservatives are not accepted in this one faction of the "Two-Party Cartel". My wish is that every conservative put his vote to Tom. Let's see how many of us there are. Let's see where they go next election when we forge a new CONSERVATIVE party that puts principle above liberalism. Remember fans, the pubbie party left us - not that we left them.

More top-down centrally-planned win-at-any-cost republicanism. They would have endorsed bill clinton had he run with an "R" after his name.
