Elimination of Agency Suggested (Arnold - get rid of Cal/EPA)

CLOVIS, Calif.— Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested at a question-and-answer forum with supporters Monday that he might eliminate the state's environmental protection agency, but a spokesman later said he meant only to reduce duplication in functions among the local, state and federal governments.

During an "Ask Arnold" event at a company that manufactures security cameras in this Fresno suburb, Schwarzenegger was asked by a man identifying himself as a farmer why the state needed Cal/EPA when the federal Environmental Protection Agency regulates many of the same things.

"What you just talked about is the waste — overlapping agencies. They cost a fortune," Schwarzenegger said. "We have to strip that down and get rid of some of those agencies."

Schwarzenegger did not go any further. In a briefing with reporters after the event, Rob Stutzman, a Schwarzenegger spokesman, refused to rule out eliminating the state agency, but also said he did not believe Schwarzenegger had said that.

He can't even "steal" ideas without muffing up.

Arnold, Maybe Robert Kennedy Jr. should run in your place. He has an R at the front of his name too. And he is one of your enviro consultants too, isn't he?

This guy has 2 months to study up on things and still can't get it right. Yeah, just what California's needs is a rookie bumpkin as Gub. geeesh!

a couple more little snips from the article..

On another policy front, Schwarzenegger — who has condemned the state's borrowing and heavy debt — has left the door open to borrowing more money to close the current year's budget gap.

For the fourth straight day, Schwarzenegger did not answer questions from the political reporters who follow him.

This man is such a stooge for the elitists and country clubbers, imo. He is now backpeddling on his "the politicians in Sacramento are villains" theme as well, Go Figure.

The elimination of State Agencies with duplicate or even conflicting regulatory interest is not new to Ahrnold, or Tom. That doesn't mean it isn't a good idea. Many of these state agencies are merely a conduit for Fed Money. Don't forget, for many, the Slimes headline will be read in the Southland as...

Can You Believe it? Musclehead Wants To Do Away with the EPA!

My personal suggestion for elimination--and pet peeve--is the fact that many CA State Agencies have armed Law Enforcement Units with arrest powers which, other than giving hundreds of retired cops an ability to get enough State retirement credits to "Triple Dip," do basically nothing. Of course, to do anything, one must first be elected...

Maybe he has the right instincts? It seems like he'll have to clean house of all the Wilsonites if we're to have any hope for some fundamental reforms...

Maybe. I think Arnold does dislike intrusive government in the abstract (Milton Friedman sold him on that), but that will not mean much in application, for someone uninformed as to the details. As I said before, anyone who thinks they know how Arnold will balance out the competing considerations on the tough issues that require painful choices, is delusional. JMO.
