Poisonous snakes turn up in the most unexpected places! One morning I found a 5-foot water mocassin on the 2nd-floor balcony! He stayed put while I fetched a shovel to dispatch him , but the shovel was so dull, my intended belt and hatband got away!

That was a big mocassin. They are rarely more than 30 inches. We killed one that was 6 ft near Black Creek in the late '70s. I haven't even heard of one that big since. Glad we took pictures.
