I kind of want to ask you what you mean by "moral liberality," but I am unsure whether we should open another can of worms. But thanks for your thoughtful responses.

Your welcome. It's not a can of worms. Conservatives are divided into 2 camps with people being one or the other or both. Fiscal conservatives are in favor of capitalism as opposed to socialism and all the many things that those two ideas represent. There are many conservatives who are just that and could care less about who is sleeping with whom or who is doing what to their unborn babies. Those of us who are conservative on moral/social issues are quite concerned about the latter.

Ok, now I know what you meant.

I suppose that since egalitarianism is one of the foundations of leftist philosophy, that the fiscal end of it is pretty basic to socialism, as you point out.

As for the "morality" part of the equation I wonder if the morality issues are inherently leftist at all, or are they more things that the Left is attempting to foist on us in an attempt to degrade our system. I say that in spite of some libertarian leanings on my part. Or at least "classical liberal" leanings.
