Isn't that the truth. I've never seen anything like this. Their hatred of Nixon never approached this level. I guess being out of power for the first time since 1932 tends to derange the mind.
I think this is a big part of it. I've followed politics very closely since 1980, after I turned 12. I never, ever imagined the House would be surely in Republican hands in my lifetime. If I thought that, what did the typical Dem officeholder expect?
In the House, for example, redistricting in Texas and other developments make a 235-200 spread in the house very realistic. That's incredible - the Dems had the House sealed up for over 40 years, now it's our turn to have it at least that long, if not longer.
This is a crackup, plain and simple. They are very used to being in power. They have great difficulty coping with being out of power. Republicans, on the other hand, in the legislative area, seem to have a difficult time coping with having power. It's been 9 years in the House and they still don't have the hang of it.
