And it is a lie that he pulled them out because "troops are spread thin." There is alsways one MEU from each active MEF on partol - they wre not retasked from the WOT. They were just doing their jobs.

This is just anither DNC talking point: the so-called "spread thin" problem.

Oh, come on. This was a put-up or shut-up operation.

Other countries to US: "Send your soldiers to stop the fighting!"

US to other countries: "No. Stop the fighting yourselves. This is YOUR backyard. We will provide support, but we won't be on the front lines for every emergency."

This is identical to George Bush's call for the UN to act in a relevant way in Iraq (and Iran...and Korea...).

In this case, he persuaded the nations of Africa to take care of an African problem. They did so. There is no need for the US to be there any longer, so we leave.

This is an excellent way to teach other nations how to deal with problems by themselves...by actually letting them handle it by themselves. I am very happy about the way the US government handled it.

I'm also amused by the fact that the African troops will now don UN helmets AFTER the crisis is basically resolved, but not before. The UN is unwilling to lead, but is certainly willing to step in once the hard work has been done.
