WASHINGTON (CNN) -- CIA Director George Tenet said Thursday a flood of news leaks about sensitive matters are jeopardizing national security -- and 95 percent of the leaks are coming from the executive branch of government.
"The nature of the leaking that's going on in this town is unprecedented. It is compromising sources and methods. It is jeopardizing American security and there are people in our government who think they have some free pass to do this for their own pleasure," said Tenet, who was testifying before the House Intelligence Committee at its first public hearing about the bombing of the Chinese Embassy.

With all of the talk about Valerie Pame being outed by the White House, I thought this Clinton era article would provide perspective.

Tenet working with the State Department to stem the flow of sensitive information is part of the problem, rather than the solution.

This is classic double talk. The CIA is part of the executive branch. He didn't say "White House".

I was stunned because the media moans and complains about the White House being tight lipped!I see the date, now! There are leaks...the army in the Pentagon and dissatisfied State Dept. employees but the Clinton's had a dept of "leaks to spread around!"

I hope Bush is regretting for not sh**kicking Tenet's ass out of the administration on 1/21/03.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid it's Mission Impossible. Federal government civilian employees are one of the most solidly liberal groups you'll find anywhere in America, and for the most part they're unionized and unfireable.

CIA Director George Tenet said Thursday a flood of news leaks about sensitive matters are jeopardizing national security -- and 95 percent of the leaks are coming from the executive branch of government IMO, the leaks are coming from the Clinton holdovers/moles(i.e the husband/wife team of Wilson/Plame) in the Bush adminstration.
Great find Soliton.

I would opine that Congressional staffers and members give the executive branch a run for their money when it comes to leaking classified information.

A very large number of "leaks" are fiction in the minds of so-called reporters. See: NY Times, Washington Post, et al.

"We have to get our house in order," he said. "This a very difficult problem that we have to solve."Yes, George, you and the DOS certainly had and continue to have a serious problem with all those "unnamed" sources reporting regularly to the NY Times and the Washington Post. But not to worry, as the darling of Congress (where you once worked), blaming it all on the White House right now is the perfect solution.

This is a 1999 article!! I know!!
In the above article it states that the administration in power at the time(1999, Clinton) was the source of the leaks.
Now the brouhaha about the "big leak" comes from a person(Wilson) who was major person in an administration(Clinton's) that would make a major beer drinker blush in embarassment at the term "leak".

My point too. W should have known Tenet had a self serving agenda for years.

I thought I made it clear that this was a 1999 article. CNN has spent all day today talking about the Valerie Plame "affair".
I thought this would once again expose their hypocrisy.

The first time I read Wilson,I thought something was a bit off.How he thought a few discussions over tea would out whether the attempt to buy the yellow cake had occurred is naive.
Sending him to Niger was strange.Perhaps his wife thought it would keep him busy, off the streets and out of the bars!
