Carpinteria, Santa Barbara County -- Republican Arnold Schwarzenegger was dogged by persistent protesters and hecklers Sunday, as he tried to seize the environmental mantle, proposing a $60 million "hydrogen highway" he said would provide a statewide chain of hydrogen fueling stations to help clean the air.

And where is he going to get the hydrogen from? It takes energy to get pure hydrogen from either liquid hyrdocarbons or H20. Is Arnie going to tell the people that they are going to need to build a nuclear power plant to get the hydrogen??

If all hydro cars have to refill every 20 miles, can you imagine the lines at these stations? EVERY hydro car will have to stop at every station.

I think after a couple years of having Arnold in charge, the Democrats may just decide not to run an opponent....

Delusional? Megalomaniacal? Definitely pandering or showing his ignorance of what such a scheme entails.

Suppose all the technical problems were somehow worked out, as they may be some day? How is he going to "create" this hydrogen highway? By raising taxes to pay for it, or maybe a bond issue? What about the hydrogen cars themselves, is he going to buy one for everybody?

The only up side to this nonsense is that you know he doesn't really mean it. He's going after the moron vote, but I don't think Arnold is himself a moron.

I'm glad I don't live in California, though Illinois is no picnic.

Exactltly, more energy than the resultant hydrogen will yield in a fuel cell.

They'll make him an honorary Democrat, like they did with Riordan.

"The things I've learned in this last month running for office have been spectacular," he said.

Elect an ignorant leftist, vote Arnold.

You can't build stations for something that doesn't exist.

You're such a cynic. Doesn't it almost make you depressed when your choice is the lesser of two evils?

Just as bad is when the obvious winner will be someone who runs unopposed by a major party candidate.

If I ever voted for a rat in NY, then he or she almost certainly also had the nomination of the NY State Conservative Party. I am certain that vote was pulled under the Conservative column. NY is almost famous for liberal pubbies.

Actually, the point of hydrogen fuel cell cars is that you can control the pollution of 1000 nuclear or coal burning power plants making the hydrogen, better than you can 100 million individual vehicles. Also, our reliance on foriegn sources of petroleum could be curtailed with the implimentation of hydrogen fuel cell cars. However, right now the cars are very expensive and require precious metals such as platinum, acting as catalysts in the fuel cells, that until we find new catalysts the cost will never come down.

There is also the building around 1000 new nuclear power plants in 25 years to produce all of the hydrogen required for this "hydrogen economy".

It might happen in 50 years, might not. I am not a betting man, so I will stay away from placing odds.

Use original article titles only. You've been here long enough to know that.

Your changed title is inappropriate.

The issue is his plan to create these hydrogen stations every 20 miles.

I posted a link to this particular article only as source for the the issue to be discussed on this thread. I did not include the anti-Arnold Chronicle writer's other garbage. This post and thread is not about the Mainucci article but the 20 mile plan and as such should be in the title of the thread.

Your title obfuscates the issue for freepers to discuss which is his proposal.
