Meteorite wrecks houses in India
bbc ^

Posted on 09/28/2003 12:18:54 PM PDT by scotslad

At least 20 people are reported to have been injured after a meteorite crashed to Earth in eastern India. Reports say hundreds of people in the state of Orissa panicked when the fireball streamed across the sky.

Burning fragments were said to have fallen over a wide area, destroying several houses.

An official in Orissa said the authorities were assessing the damage and trying to recover what was left of the meteor.

Reports from Orissa said windows rattled as the meteor passed overhead.

"It was all there for just a few seconds but it was like daylight everywhere," one resident said.

Rarity

Experts estimate about 100 tons of extraterrestrial dust grains fall to earth each day.

Occasionally, a dark pebble or fist-size object will rain down, with boulder-sized objects or bigger being a historical rarity.

The only recorded fatality from a meteor was an Egyptian dog that had the bad luck to be in the wrong place at the wrong time in 1911.

Seven decades later, scientists recognised the dog had been struck by a meteorite from Mars.

You think the Prime Minister of India reads FR? No, India doesn't send troops to Iraq because we didn't offer to pay them. You'd think that the massive numbers of jobs we offshored to India would be enough.

"You think the Prime Minister of India reads FR?"

Yes, he does.

"No, India doesn't send troops to Iraq because we didn't offer to pay them."

It's time to sweeten the pot, son. Think of entry of India into the U.N. Security Council, for starters.

" You'd think that the massive numbers of jobs we offshored to India would be enough."

It is a mutually beneficial relationship, and the main beneficiary from outsourcing are American companies. India has the most advanced and gifted PhDs, engineers, mathematicians, and scientists.

No it isn't. As for the comment "the most advanced" I laugh heartily. India techs are being used because they are cheap not because they are good. I know from first hand experience how bad the work from India outsourcing firms is. Fixing the junk that comes back from there, does provide full time employent over here though for the more advanced programmers here in America.

" India techs are being used because they are cheap not because they are good"

Then tell me why they are making the same, if not more money, than their American counterparts here in the U.S. Their hard work, extraordinary work product, and superior abilities are the reason.

You speak like a truly jealous and pathetic loser. If you can't compete, resport to name calling and belittling. The Indian scientific and math education is the most advanced, rigorous, and competitive in the world. That is why they produce the best and most advanced engineers, and that is why you are unemployed.

Cool! Wish someone would ship me a hunk of meteorite for the kids' rock collection. Supposedly one can find meteor dust at the bottom of roof drain spouts. Scoop some debris onto a piece of white paper and pick out the leaves and sticks. Run a magnet across the back of the paper to hold anything metallic (space dust) and discard the rest.

Too bad about the injuries though.

If this great global leader actually spends his time reading FR perhaps we should advertise that fact publicly. Something tells me that the embassy would deny it.

You must be joking or you are completely ignorant. Many Indians are indeed very good, but in my personal experience most have very poor skills. Many are hired because, while they have poor skills, they are willing to work very long hours (kudos for them) and that they kiss a** very well. In my company we don't rely on the h1-bs to work on critical systems. They are fine in a support role.

However, my comment wasn't direct at Indians in the US (who are fine employees for the most part) but rather the very poor work that comes from companies based in India.

Your comment and opinion that Indians are the most advanced is laughable. The horrible living conditions of your nation demonstrate that you have a long way to go. You'll get there in time, but don't pretend that you are the "most advanced" at this time. LOL!

I am not unemployed, btw. Not only do I have an upper management position in technology, I also have a consulting company. I'm sorry that you are stuck in a third world dump, but you don't need to come on here and lie to us about how "advanced" you are. It is not our responsibility to make you feel better about yourselves. When one can walk through Bombay without stepping on human excrement come back here and we can once again discuss how advanced India is.

This is from one of your other posts:

"I would suspect that the higher average IQ of those of Hebrew ancestory has much to do with this stat..."

This was taken from your post, appearing here:

US study: Jews richer because of religion

Obviously you believe that the Jewish people are genetically superior intellectually, but you believe Indians are not all too bright. Let me guess, you are Jewish?

And also exposed as a fraud.

Furthermore, shame on you, especially when India and Israel are learning to work together to combat a common enemy. Comments like yours, followed by exposures that you are in fact a fraid and a manipulator, are always duly noted.

I'm not Jewish, but I have read "The Bell Curve" a rather famous book. Sorry, try again to smear me, troll.

I have also never said that I believe Indians to be less intelligent. I was referring to the work that comes from India, specifically software development. Intelligence doesn't enter into this discussion. India's problems are a result of many factors that have nothing to do with intelligence.

I'm sure Jennifer Smith is really your name. LOL! You're the fraud!!! Tell your government that Americans are very angry about your lack of support concerning Iraq. There will be a backlash that will affect your economy.

Comments like yours embarass you enough because they show the univere, and yourself, that not only are you a fraud and a manipulator, but that you suck all around. That kind of exposure is very satisfying.

MARS ATTACKS!

And Mars came closer to Earth than any time in the last 60,000 years -- obviously a good time for their invasion fleet to launch toward us!

Egyptian dogs, meteorites, Mars approaches, the California Recall evoking Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mars-based movie, Total Recall -- isn't it fascinating how it all fits together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle, until ONE PERCEIVES THE TRUTH !!!!!!

I am an American. And the only Americans who are very angry about Indians not sending troops to Iraq are people of your ilk. You know who they are. I am done speaking with you loser.

I'm sorry that I exposed the fact that Indian outsourcing firms produce a lousy product for the most part. You obviously are too sensitive to hear the truth.

I have duly noted your complete lack of maturity demonstrated by your comment "you suck all around". Please try to come up with more "advanced" insults.
