If he stays in, McClintock will lose a lot of support when he tries for another statwide office (like Boxer's Senate seat).

Not neccessarily it depends on the outcome of the election.If Schwartzenegger wins Mclintock will be forgiven the electorate has a short memory.If Bustemonte wins or the recall fails he's toast not only will Republicans not vote for him some may actively campaign against him.It seems to me that about half the polls I've seen show Arnold winning even with Mclintock still in the race unfortunately the other half show Buste in the lead.And that's what makes it exiting hehe.
