It's rare that I encounter someone so bad that I don't think they deserve a tip. In fact, someone that bad deserves to be complained about to the manager. Otherwise, decent tips for all, better tips for good service, or just when I am feeling jolly, which is hopefully as often as possible. Of course, I don't dine out that often, so it's not like I'm going broke from tipping. It just feels good to leave a little extra on the table, beyond what's expected. I don't go to church, so maybe it's my way of giving "tidings", if that's the right word for it. It's my pleasure. There must be better things to get cranky about than tipping.

I don't go to church either, but I DO believe as do you, that it is right to spread some of the good stuff around when you have it!

I call it "paybacks to the universe" and I USUALLY mean "paybacks" in a GOOD way in this instance! LOL!

I don't go out often either, but I do try to give more, especially at holiday time!

I don't usually complain to the manager. it takes a LOt to rile me, and if I am that angry it is just better for everyone if i just leave.
Besides.
Maybe the person is just having an off day.
I don't want to get someone canned because their dog just died or something!
