"Why doesn't Arnold pick up the telephone and call Tom?"

It yet may come to that- there probably have been lots of feelers put out by party leaders on this on - if not to Tom directly, certainly his staff. But let's face the facts: Tom gets that odd hypnotized look in his eyes whenever someone mentions all the harm he can do by staying in.

At this point, trying to get Tom to do the smart thing is more of a job for a psychologist than a politician. Maybe Arnold is working his way through the Mental Health section of the yellow pages looking for a shrink willing to take on the job!

Because he has said that he does not want to pressure Tom to quit. Tom is going to have to come to that decision on his own.
