Bruce Herschensohn does ad for Tom McClintock
California Republican Assembly ^ | Sept. 27, 03 | California Republican Assembly

Posted on 09/27/2003 12:40:33 PM PDT by churchillbuff

I just heard a GREAT radio ad supporting Tom McClintock for Governor. It was Bruce Herschensohn - - California's MR. CONSERVATIVE -- speaking from the heart. An announcement said it was co-sponsored by California Republican Assemply, so I went to their web site - - and here's the official announcement of the Herschensohn ad:

CRA LAUNCHES RADIO CAMPAIGN TO SUPPORT TOM MCCLINTOCK FOR GOVERNOR The California Republican Assembly announced today that it was beginning a radio campaign urging support for Tom McClintock in the recall election October 7th. Bruce Herschensohn speaks candidly with listeners in the 60 second spot confronting the argument that although McClintock is the best candidate, he can’t win.

“If everyone who has said that would vote for him he’d win by a landslide,” Herschensohn says. The spot concludes with an appeal from Herschensohn: “If you think he’s the most qualified candidate, support him. At this point, it doesn’t depend on him, it depends on you.”

"Wrong. Look for the post-election polling data. I am willing to bet that "conservatives" will constitute at least 40% of the vote in the recall."

Call me "wrong" and then look to the future for your "Proof" ?

So since by definition noone who would vote for Arnold can call themselves conservative ( as I've heard here many times ) - are you betting that Tom will win by a landslide ?

No, truthkeeper, Arnold isn't against the referendum; he just doesn't support it.

It all depends on what the meaning of "against" is, is. All I know is that it means I'm against Arnold.

From LA Daily News, September 11:

"I'll vote for the person I agree with most," Herschensohn said. Otherwise, "my conscience would bother me tremendously. I can't do it."

Dick Mountjoy, past president of the California Republican Assembly, a conservative organization that has endorsed McClintock, said McClintock, R-Thousand Oaks, has taken clear-cut conservative stands on the issues.

"You take a look at Tom, Tom has a very strong 'no' on taxes, Schwarzenegger says 'no, but maybe;' Tom is a very strong supporter of 54, which is for a colorblind society, Schwarzenegger is 'no, I don't like it," Mountjoy said, referring to Proposition 54, which would prohibit the state from collecting most racial data.

"Tom knows where he's going, he's got a philosophy, he's running with it. I'd like a little more definitive answers than what we're getting out of Schwarzenegger."

Your focus on style and surface rather than substance doesn't surprise me - - - isn't that why you're for Arnold? That makes you a liberal in my book - they're the ones who judge books by covers and prefer style to substance, charisma over convictions.

time bail on CA

If you liberal Republicans are right, and it's impossible for a conservative of intelligence and conviction like McClintock to win, then it's time NOW to bail on california. Arnold isn't going to be able to fix the state with "moderate-liberal" policies; at best that's more of the status quo, at worst that keeps the slide going. The only thing that will turn Cal around is Conservative policies - - but you guys say voters won't buy them, so you won't support a candidate who's selling them; that's the ultimate argument for leaving California - if you're right, the state is beyond hope.

You haven't answered my question: WHY IS ARNOLD AFRAID TO JOIN THE REFERENDUM TO REPEAL THE LICENSE PLATE LAW? And doesn't that show that he'll be a weak governor, because he can't stand up to the liberals?

pansy-assed

McClintock didn't get down in the sandbox with Arianna and Arnold, you're right. But he DID point out the differences between him and the liberal Republican in this race. Only Tom is supporting the referendum to repeal the illegals' license plate law. WHY IS ARNOLD SCARED TO SUPPORT THIS REPEAL EFFORT? Do the liberal special interests have him spooked? Is he a pansy-assed PC westside of LA wuss? THAT'S THE WAY IT LOOKS TO ME!

Yep a few have endorsed 'tock....... But it doesn't look like he's playing very well in Peroria and that's what counts.... So with his endorsements, Indian money and 15% of the vote he'll come in 3rd at best... and most likely be regulated to the hind teat in the republican party of CA for any future aspirations....

[The California Republican Party has scheduled an emergency board of directors meeting for Monday at 1 p.m. in Burbank to consider endorsing a candidate in the recall replacement election.] http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/990970/posts?

Dan:
Unless I missed it, I didn't notice a comment from you on this thread. However, I have a very good memory and I distinctly recall you saying, years ago, that you worked on Bruce's Senate campaign against Barbard Boxer...and that the outcome was "a real heartbreaker." You also had several other very complimentary things to say about Bruce and his overall character, if I remember correctly.

I was just wondering if you would care to make any comment at all about the many vile and disgusting posts on this thread relating to Bruce. You have been quite vocal on calling out McClintock supporters when they get out of line.

Frankly, the piling on here is turning my stomach, so I will be interested to see if - and how - you respond.

Emergency, huh? Guess the party hacks are scared that party grassroots voters aren't all buying what the RINO is selling.

His role is to block a real conservative

BINGO! Thank you. The "moderates" and other anti-Tom freepers say they're not supporting him because he "can't win" but the truth is THEY DON'T WANT HIM TO WIN -- THEY DON'T WANT A CONSERVATIVE IN THE GOVERNOR'S OFFICE. Remember, these folks didn't want Reagan, either. It was only after he got the nomination and was elected that the moderates started pretending they liked him.

Save your breath, they won't answer that question for us either. They're afraid to, they just play kick the can with it.

You'll find out why AFTER the election.

Good point. The moderates and RINO lovers are showing their true colors, aren't they? "Tolerance" my foot.

It's a good thing they're radio ads, it seems like everytime I saw Bruce Herschensohn, he looked like he slept in his clothes and needed some grooming tips.

Wow, that's such an insightful piece of analysis. Thank you for avoiding crude personal attacks like the guy who brought up Alzheimers. Keep up the good work and I'm sure that you'll convince us TomBots to vote for your boy.

Guess you're right - - I've asked it again and again, but no responses. Very disturbing. I feel like the guy at Jonestown who kept asking about the ingredients in the juice, and got ignored.

I don't engage in such personal attacks and empathize with your disgust and anger. Sorta like the "tolerance" of some of our fellow-freepers attacking Arnold as being no different than the far-left MeCHa candidate or posting pictures of Hitler in response to postings by conservatives who support Arnold.

I feel your pain.

I feel your pain.

Thanks for the empathy. Maybe you could also help me by letting me know: WHY WON'T ARNOLD SUPPORT THE VOTER REFERENDUM TO REPEAL THE ILLEGAS' DRIVERS LICENSE LAW? Apparently he has said that, instead, he'd ask the Legislature to repeal it. Right, like that would ever happen. THE ONLY WAY TO GET RID OF THIS LAW IS BY BALLOT INITIATIVE. WHY WON'T ARNOLD SUPPORT THAT INITIATIVE? If you feel my pain, please help relieve it by enlightening me on this issue !

I like that one, may I steal it? BTW, this thread will probably die now. I've noticed a trend, whenever a direct and uncomfortable question is asked, the Arnold supporters run for the hills. Except for the children, who like to come out and throw sand.

Makes it all so much easier that way, dontcha know.

I've pretty much killed off several threads just by asking that question.

One Arnold supporter even tried to claim that he didn't want to "dilute his focus". I suggested that a whole 10-minute effort to have a staffer write a press release and another 5 minutes to sign it wouldn't "dilute his focus" too much. I got no response to that suggestion. Sheesh.
