Freepers represent the most hardcore of hardcore conservatives

Not anymore. That hasn't been the case since 2001.

I always knew Bob Dornan was a smart guy.

Right. All those who threw their support behind Perrot, look so smart now.

Sean can be really funny, though,...

If being a shill and a poll sheep is funny, that he is. He hasn't an original thought in his "do-set" head.

Without "flipper" handing him the faxes...he'd be reduced to going to calls from "Marty"!!!!

Thank God for "Marty"...highlight of the Hannity Show.

"It's never wrong to stand for what you believe. Some folks know they can only live with being true to themselves. They may stand like defiant warriors, outnumbered on a windswept hill, but courage carries an honor more lasting and valuable than the successful outcome of one battle."

The only problem is that you take the rest of us down with you, and ALL of the people of California will have to live with the results of a Bustamente Atzlan. It would be one thing if you, the defiant warrior, went down yourself, but you ruin it for everyone else as well. How charitable of you.

Nice to see there are still Conservatives in the Republican Party.

Bordering on extinction. But look to the top for leadership. There is none.

between smart Republicans

and dumb Republicans,

Hmm. How smart is it to be out of office, with no power?

Bob's a Tomikazee? Not surprising as the party didn't exactly show Bob a lot of loyalty either.

The closest election I've ever voted in was the 2002 Controller's race. Do you think this election will have results that are so tight?

Hope not... or it will be litigated to death...

One way I could see it being reeeeeeeeeeally close is a big late surge by the Democrats. It seemed like in 2000 Republicans were caught flat footed in many states by a late Rat surge as all of the Welfare State recipients awoke from their apathy... But Grayout is really gonna need a big big surge because there are lready a million absentee votes in the can - which were cast when he was down at least 10% I think he'd have to win election day voting by several percent to hang on... but I am no math Whiz...

You're right, there is a "moral hazard" component in voting for someone "not (quite) as vile" as the Dem. Cynical opportunists watch elections.

Will any of the McClintock supporters on here flip by election day?

I already did. I was waiting for Arnold to "wow" me, but he never did (and McClintock impressed me quite a lot). Still, I respect that the majority of the Republicans in CA want Schwarzenegger as the candidate, so I cast my vote for him. I don't want to go from being an idealist to becoming an "Old Man Grumpus"...

If McClintock can show a little class now and give up gracefully, there is still a future for him in California politics (which it is where it seems he wants to be, while Arnold probably wants to move on to the national stage). McClintock could replace Arnold as governor eventually, if he proves he can handle himself now. If he has a hissy fit--well, nobody wants a guy like that in a position of power.

Fact is, it's important for Arnold to have as large a margin of victory as possible. It would dispel any notion that the recall election was somehow illegitimate if he received more than 50% of the votes cast. The larger the margin, the less chance the ACLU will try to overturn the election on legal grounds (and turn California into another Florida). The larger the margin, the more scared Democrat legislators will be, and the more likely they will be to bend to Arnold. Arnold with the will of the people behind him will be able to do more to advance a conservative agenda than Tom McClintock, if Tom wins with a very narrow margin and is vulnerable in the governors' race in 2004.

I don't think so. They can go to the polls and cast a provisional ballot, but it's unlikely to count because the absentee ballots are mixed and counted first, before the poll-location ballots even return to the county registrar.

That probably varies from place to place. In at least some places, from what I've read, absentee ballots are kept in sealed enevelopes at the registered voters' polling places until after the election. This means that even if someone forges an absentee ballot for you, they can't steal your vote if you show up at the polls. Without such a rule, someone who casts a forged absentee ballot could boost his candidate's margin by two points (one for the absentee ballot, and one for the legitimate opposing ballot that gets thrown out).

Madam, I did not bring California to this point. It is not people of principle who did. Moral people who stand for something are not the destroyers. It is people who trade away everything they believe to win who ultimately trade away everything worth the victory.

Perot's position on damage to America from unfair, "free trade" happens to have been proven correct.

You are right. Following the election, if McClintock does not bow out soon there will be a bloodbath. By the way, Dornan's appearance on H&C confirmed once again what any conservative with a scintilla of sense already knew. Some things never change: The guy is a real Clymer.

There was a time for McClintock to fight-it's now OVER.

Dornan is a decent man, but he is a real, authentic NUT CASE.
