Candidates Kicked out of Church

Why are Mayoral Candidates in San Francisco, being kicked out of “Public” meetings?

Two mayoral candidates were forcibly removed from a church the evening of Wednesday September 25, 2003. Bay Area Organizing, BAO had a forum for the Mayoral candidates at St. Mark’s Church at 1031 Franklin Street, San Francisco. Not only were Jim Reid and Roger Schulke, both candidates for the office of mayor, not invited to participate, they were strongly requested that to leave their seats and stand at the back of the room. Then, near the close of the meeting after the other candidates had made their closing comments, Mr. Schulke politely asked if it would be possible for Jim Reid and himself to be heard. At this time, four burly men forced Mr. Schulke out of the door and out of the Church.

When, Mr. Reid stood there with his hand in the air waiting to be recognized by the moderator, these same four men literally dragged him from the room and dropped him on the floor just outside the door. They then slammed the door shut.

As far is know, not one or the candidates on the stage protested. Where is the leadership from the other mayoral candidates – two of whom, ironically, are lawyers who state they fight against discrimination and civil rights? What about Mr. Reid’s and Mr. Schulke’s right to be heard by a coalition of non-profit organizations? And why does a meeting held at in a church need to use Gestapo tactics? Personally, I think this is an outrage and more appropriate to Nazi Germany, than to San Francisco’s mayoral race. Said Mr. Schulke

Who is Roger Schulke and why should I vote for him. Other than the fact he took out an ad in the newpaper I work for in my spare time.

Does anyone, anywhere, ever find this sort of hyperbole convincing?

Can't blame Catholics this time - A United Church of Christ congregation - http://www.sanfranciscoucc.org/Fccsf5.htm

Question whether the 'four burly men' were, in fact, men.

It's great to know that there's a state with more jackass politicians than we have here.

Cheers.

Whatever happened to the "separation of church and state"???

How come we can't have religeous items in government buildings but they can campaign in churches??

Is there still a San Francisco? I thought Willie Brown had moved the city to Africa or something.
