"My Legal Aid lawyer claimed she was also a medical professional and diagnosed me as mentally ill when I told her I teach poetry at New York University."

Comments please.

This is what happens when you have biased reporting. The legal aid lawyer asked him for a sample of his poetry teachings. He proceeded to recite the words to "The Beverly Hillbillys" jingle and THAT got him diagnosed as crazy.

Seems like a reasonable diagnosis...

He had no one on the "outside" that his lawyer could have gotten in touch with to confirm his "true" identity?

Something doesn't sound right about this.

Yo guys, this identity theft thing happened to me after leaving California. I was rightly busted for trundling along at 79 in a 60 zone (on my Segway) in Ohio. The copper ran me on his car computer and I discovered I had 12 (TWELVE) moving violations in California and was wanted on bench warrants all over the state!

The Trooper asked me if I were Rambo! On one day within 30 minutes, a couple of my alter egos had received speeding tickets in Eureka and San Diego. I was not arrested, but detained and not allowed to drive for 2 days until they examined the records closely. I did get a local lawyer Apparently, there were at least 4 driver's licenses issued with my name and number! It seems the Mexifornia DMV has been selling those cute California holographic blanks, for distribution to illegals in Macarthur Park. All the State troopers across the country already know of the scam, and despite publicity in the WSJ, the Mexifornians are in steadfast denial! $35. Passports? $250. Full ID kit, including Birth Certificate, License, Passport, $500-1500, depending on quality.

So yeah, the guy's story is possible. In regard to letting the "Anwar Bostick" character walk, the Santa Monica PD did the same thing to a guy with my papers, even after having been alerted. What's implausible is that it has been going on for quite a while for the guy in the post. Too long. This happened to me in 1997. It cost me approximately $3500 and about 3 months to fully clear up. There were, thank goodness, no phony credit cards. I can't believe this Harvard guy (an attorney?)didn't get right on this and clear it up.

Identity theft is easy for experienced crooks to handle. Fortunately, once you're wise to it, it's easy to clean up, if a bit pricey. But once it's a matter of record, you're cool. I have to give our young lawyer-poet-victim-actor a "D" in overall KB Kredibility. His script sounds remarkably like "Six Degrees of Separation."
