"People tell me all the time that 'you care more about your principles than you care about winning'. First of all, I believe that if you stick to your principles, you will win. And secondly, if you don't stick to your principles, what is the point of winning?" When he loses I will repost this for you.

McClintock for Senator! Knock off boxer in '04. With AS's help as gov. we could get a good conservative in the senate from CA.

Conservatives want to win but they know that a win that asks us to repudiate our principles is not a victory, its a harbinger of the end. This is exactly what Rush has been saying as well. Thanks for the ping, I enjoyed reading the article.
To: StoneColdGOP
The fringe are just nuts. They have no mature idea about politics. No matter what the circumstance, the most conservative candidate will never ever win ANY election.
It will always be a candidate that isn't too far away from the general voting population.
If you want more conservative candidates you must get the population to move to the right first. You will never get the population to knowingly vote for a candidate too left or too right as measured by where the population is.
For California, McClintock is apparently too far right for the average citizen.
Sorry, folks that is how majority rule works. Get over it. Hanging on to principals is great. Convince as many people as you can that liberalism is wrong and move the population as far right as possible and then when it comes time to vote do whatever you can to make sure the most conservative guy wins.
You gain ground by inches.

Some people only hear what the polls tell them to listen too. They are lemmings, sheeple.
Our country was founded by men who laughed at the polls, they scorned the cowardly who only followed the prevailing majority - feel - safe opinion. When they stood their ground in Lexington and Concord, they stood against the opinion polls that said they had no chance going up against the most powerfull military in the world with only a bunch of farmers. And yet when the battle was joined, the Frontrunner, the english lobsterbacks, went scampering and crying back to boston, having been bled all the way by the True Courage of Freedom.
It is shamefull that today this country has so many gutless spineless supposed patriots. They don't want elections, they want coronations. They don't dare risk anything unless they are assured that they are with the front runner.
Well, England was a frontrunner in 1776, the colonies could not win. Yet it was England that got crushed and had to surrender and stack their arms at the feet of a People who came from the Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave.
May Englands fate await those who stand for nothing except what they are told to by their masters.

You gain ground by inches. Running to the Left is not going to convince people on the Left (or even in the Center) to move to the Right.
Standing firm on principle and offering a distinct choice will yield results. However, it may not bring an instant victory. Capitulation in the name of expedience is a losing proposition. We've done it for years, and it just makes the Left stronger.

Well before I take off on a little fishing trip let me say this, that if Aunold is elected and three years from now the budget is not balanced, taxes & fees are not cut, the CA economy is in the toilet and the 'Rats are hitting the GOP over the head like a pinata with "three years later and the state is in worse shape than before"...I won't say "I told you so." May I remind you of the last RINO elected in CA, Pete Wilson who wasn't in office long enough to get his seat warm and he raised taxes and took the state that was in the middle of a recession into a near depression. Californians are destined to make the same mistake until they finally learn that a liberal is still a liberal whether they have an "R", a "D" or an "I" after their name. And it is impossible to be a fiscal conservative and a social liberal at the same time...ya gotta pay for those programs somehow! Have a great weekend all...cause we will!

I write this now and hold it in my keeper folder to hold over everyone in ten weeks...Busta's going to be Guv, and it is going to be the Perot Factor that does it. The only bright lighi in this is that I am in Ohio, not California, so when the wheels come off the cart thanks to my high-minded Republican brothers, I won't be the one holding the bag.

Oddly similar to what happens here when pro-AS articles are posted... Good point. Maybe when we concenrate on substance and substantive candidates like Tom they'll get bored, twirl their hair and go looking for MTV.

That is not true - Tom was never supported by his party. Had he received 1/10 of the money, time and support that Arnold has received by G.O.P. minions - we would not be in the situation we are in.
Arnold has spend $13 million and has had unprecedented media coverage - he has remained steady in the polls.
Cruz has spent $9 million and is operating in a state where Dems are in the majority - he has remained steady in the polls
Tom has spent $1.6 million and is being obstructed by his own party. - he has gained in the polls.

When the time comes to nominate a candidate for senate the party will put up another "moderate" republican and the same "moderate" elements here & elsewhere will be providing the same "common sense" reasons why we shouldn't throw our votes away on TM.
Sooner or later the line must be drawn.

"You gain ground by inches"
When we elected Reagan we gained ground by the mile. Bush would have gotten us inches. Arnold will gain inches - for the democrats. Of course being a former Marine, I'm not too partial too gaining inches. Fire and MOVEMENT baby!
