Last summer I read Carlo De' Este's Book on Patton. Very well written and goes into great detail on Patton, his life, battles and those that had it in for him.
In the forward De'Este says forget about the movie "Patton" as it was deeply flawed and mainly because the Technical Adviser was General Omar Bradley, who absolutely hated Patton. That movie was based on Ladislas Farago's book and Bradley's book, with Bradley making sure that movie showed Patton as he wanted him to be seen.

Thanks for the tip; I'll try and get my hands on De' Este's book. I wondered about Bradley, seeing as he had all that influence, while Patton was off in that Great Battlefield in the Sky. And yet, the movie doesn't come across as a hatchet job to me.

Exactly,Bradley was damned clerk .If your really want a nasty little book, read Bradley's "autobiography,"A General's Life".

He and Ike were playing bridge the night the Bulge began and neither of them seemed to clue in on what was happening..
