BAGHDAD, Iraq -- An American soldier has been killed and two others wounded in an ambush in northern Iraq.
The U.S. military says it happened late Thursday night when someone fired a rocket-propelled grenade at the soldiers' vehicle in the oil-producing city of Kirkuk.
The U.S. military says the soldiers are from the 173rd Airborne Brigade.
The death raises to 86 the number of U.S. soldiers killed by hostile fire since May 1, when President George W. Bush declared an end to major combat in Iraq.
Meanwhile, the U.S. military says another American soldier died and another was injured in a fire in northern Iraq.
The fire happened in an abandoned building in the Tikrit area Thursday night. The soldiers were from the 4th Infantry Division.
No further details are available.

For some reason, this display of sympathy, the prayer...they touched me. Deeply.
Offering my own prayers and hoping for the best for all of our troops over there, perhaps especially for my son, SPC Millan of the 101st in Mosul. They--WE appreciate the true support.

And our family sends special prayers to your son and all his colleagues, sacrificing so much to protect our freedom.
If you're not aware, Boxerblues has a group that sends care packages to our soldiers overseas. You can privately share his address with her if you like.

Thanks Coop!
I may do that, even though his mother sends him a package once a week and a letter a day. (When I'm at sea I'm lucky to get 2 packages and a letter a week over six months--but I understand. Shoot, I have a shower every day and hot food and a rack with sheets and a blanket to sleep in every night. Hard to complain...)
The support you all show for our troops is one thing that first attracted me to FR, and I've stuck around since. You're all what folks call "Good People" and I like being a part of it all. (Hate group my aching...er....ear)

I may do that, even though his mother sends him a package once a week and a letter a day. I highly encourage you to do it. No risk or obligation. Just one more show of support that I know your son and his fellow soldiers would certainly appreciate. I served over in the desert years back, and all letters, cards and packages were appreciated - even one from an ex-girlfriend! LOL
