BAGHDAD, Sept 26 (Reuters) - A mortar attack on a market in the restive town of Baquba, northeast of Baghdad, killed eight Iraqis, the U.S. military said on Friday.

A U.S. Army spokesman said it was not known who mounted the attack on Thursday evening. Baquba lies in the "Sunni triangle" region, a focal point for attacks on U.S. forces and support for ousted leader Saddam Hussein.

The spokesman said no U.S. soldiers were hurt in the attack. Since May 1, 79 U.S. soldiers have been killed in guerrilla attacks in Iraq.

The mortar bombing was the latest in a string of deadly attacks in Iraq this week.

On Thursday morning, a bomb at a Baghdad hotel used by U.S. network NBC killed a Somali guard. The previous day a roadside bomb meant for a U.S. convoy exploded beside two civilian buses, killing an Iraqi.

On Monday, a suicide car bomber blew himself up near the United Nations headquarters in Baghdad, also killing a security guard.

So whose fault is this? The Americans or the Israelis?

Oh yes, and lest I forget...

Quagmire!
