Five people accused of robbing a Mojave bank on Sept. 5 will be tried in federal court. Francesca Maia Rivera and Megan Lee Evans, both 19; Jonathon Jovan Ward, 22; and Maliki DeWayne Foust, 23, were arrested soon after allegedly robbing Mojave Desert Bank in the 15500 block of K Street.

Their alleged partner in crime, Kejaun Chavis Moore , was arrested later, according to FBI spokeswoman Karen Ernst.

Each originally was charged in Kern County with four state charges of robbery.

On Sept. 16, the federal government decided to take the case to the United States District Court in Fresno, and the state charges have been dropped.

Rivera has been released on bail, but the others remain in custody. Each was charged in federal court with one count of bank robbery, which carries a maximum term of 25 years in prison, and with carrying a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, which carries a maximum term of 5 years in prison.

The three men allegedly went into the bank, jumped over the counter and took an undetermined amount of cash before running out and getting into a white Toyota Camry. They abandoned the Camry a short distance away, and witnesses reported seeing them get into a new silver Chevrolet Tahoe with paper license plates.

They went south on the Antelope Valley Freeway and exited in Lancaster. The men got out on Avenue H-8 and Date Avenue. Ward and Foust were caught immediately. The women sped away, but were arrested soon after in Saugus. Moore was found later.
