Ray, how old was Beth when she had dem first two pregnancies?

I gained too much weight on the first. It's a common mistake. You get all determined to "eat right". I was in despair during the early part, too nauseated to eat. I was sure that would be very bad for the baby. But it's natural; I shouldn't have worried about it.

I had no problems at all, really. BUT I WELL remember walking, towards the end. Needless to say, I wore flat shoes at all times. I worked the whole time, too. I would bet money that Laci was feeling really LARGE. She was short, no taller than 5'4", I think, so her situation is comparable to what mine was. My mother commented that I had a rolling gait, like a sailor on deck. NO WAY, in my opinion, would Laci have walked for the sheer feel-good of it. I bet she just walked exactly as much as she thought she had to for her health--but no more. I can't emphasize enough that walking is not fun at that stage; furthermore, her friends said she was not feeling well in the legs and ankles.

They DID subpoena that other pregnant woman, Kristen Dempewolf. It's obvious that they've talked to her a good bit. I heard there were one or two others in the area. I feel confident that they at least looked for those, too.

I never heard any of that about the dogs following trucks. Let me know approximately where that was mentioned, and I'll go read it.

You have a point about the residential streets probably looking safer to her than the park. However, I'll bet there was a regular crowd who walked their dogs in the park. That's how it usually is. It's certainly possible that she was planning to walk on the street, but WHY then did she tell Scott she was going to the PARK?? That's what he said!!

There is nothing absurd at all in at least wondering if Scott had to do with it. Therefore, I think the MPD were acting sensibly in suspecting him. It's not like they did anything over-the-limit to him. He had his freedom, in fact he went up to Berkeley and hid out, and nobody bothered him! They got warrants, didn't try to force or fake his cooperation. They didn't arrest him until they really had something.

She always left her KEYS, cellphone, and I.D. at the house when she went walking?

Waveland, ah yes. Trapani's gone. Not surprising. I assume that probably two other joints sprang up in its place. My husband's old classmate is the mayor now, I hear. And I am thrilled to hear you confirm that, you, too, believe that strange things can be seen on that lonely road! Makes my husband look so much less crazy!

DA, I saw that walk through with Gretta and I thought then there was no way Laci was walking there that day or any day in the latter part of her pregnancy: too steep and loose ground, not to mention safety overall. Also, good point about her being only 5'4", that makes it even more unlikely.

Then, as you and others have pointed out, Laci was having a bad case of water retention/swelling which is very uncomfortable and not condusive to being on her feet, much less walking. She had been complaining about it and was only doing what she had to do to get by.

So,bottom line, I still believe whatever happened occurred durring the evening of 12/23, early morning of 12/24. No on can absolutely confirm interaction with Laci after the phone call with her mother on 12/23.

Eye witnesses are dangerous to whichever side puts them on when there are multiple winesses: easy to knock down, especially given that their sightings are in opposing times and directions, but I will await the couts to do that job. It's the old story: 4 people are eye witnesses to a car accident and they see 4 totally different accidents.

I surely can't speak to the legal issues - it doesn't take long for me to bump up against the limits of my knowledge there. I can speak to the issue of the memories & eyewitness testimony of those folks who supposedly saw Laci in the park that day. In recent years we've learned quite a bit about memory and perception. For one thing, people often misperceive events. If they do, what is in their memories will be inaccurate. Assuming the perception is correct, the memory is not like a stored video tape. It can actually change in storage (like if new scenes were added or old scenes deleted from your movie on tape). Subsequent experiences can change that memory. Also (and probably more common) memories can be changed when retrieved. These people who "saw Laci" are not necessarily lying - especially if they are used to seeing her walk her dog. There perceptions or memories could be inaccurate. I was involved in a case years ago where a lady remembered seeing a man at a store on a particular day (she was used to seeing him there several days a week). It was proven (no doubt) that at that time he was dead in his apartment. She still, to this day, believes that she saw him. I'm not saying that this proves that these folks did NOT see Laci ....I'm just saying that this evidence is not very powerful and, as a defense attorney, I wouldn't count on it saving my client.
