It is interesting that he called her Christmas morning. It's hard to know what to make of it without the context. I'd like to know when the police became suspicious and how they were treating him at that time. I suspect that he talked to the police quite a bit initially and they might have caught him in some lies on the first day. If so, he may have a strong need to call Amber for reassurance. Also, I'm not fully convinced that this is a guy who was out having superficial affairs (like most guys who fool around on their wives). I would like to know if his past affairs were obsessive (think Glen Close in Fatal Attraction).

Regarding his 8 a.m. (or so) Christmas call to Amber, I think he knew he'd be in the doghouse if he didn't at least call her on a big day like that. I think he also knew that if he didn't get in touch with her at the earliest decent hour, she'd be calling him, and maybe her call would come in when he had someone with him... such as the ROCHAS!!

At some point, and I think it was right after Laci "went missing", and it could easily have been Christmas Day, the Rochas were with Scott at his house. Because I remember the Rochas pointed out to the press that Scott was spending time vacuuming. VACUUMING!!!

But I do think you're right about the reassurance thing, overall. He needed his "mommy" b/c he was afraid, afraid of the very deep waters he was in. Afraid, b/c there was no taking it back now!

He did seem quite obsessive about Amber, but I find it hard to believe he got that crazy about any past affairs, b/c if he had, I think we'd have heard about it by now.

I wonder if a touch of the obsessive/compulsive would play into this? Do you think so? What I'm thinking of is, as we all know, he could have just divorced Laci. Then he'd have been "damaged"; he'd have the old child support obligation, and the weekend visitation, and the division of property. A lot of loose ends. I just get this feeling that he couldn't stand to be out there as "damaged goods", with loose ends to bother him. I just get this feeling that he had to do something that (he thought) would give him a totally clean break from both Laci and Connor--as if they had never existed, "as if their lives had no meaning", to borrow a phrase from Sharon Rocha.

As for when the police first became suspicious, I believe they became suspicious immediately. They wanted to come into the house early on, and he told them to go get a warrant first. ("Ho hum, yeah, the wife's missing, but we can't forget our rights...") Of course, that was his right, but it's also the police's way to take something like that as suspicious. I think he told them the sturgeon-fishing story from the first; however, I think the air sort of came out of that one when they casually asked, "What bait did you use?" and he "couldn't remember". Less than 48 hours later, and he couldn't remember?

Actually Julie, Snott Peterson would NOT cooperate with the Police from day one.
