The President’s Re-election Prospects Have Nearly Disappeared
Varied Internet sources, via Google ^ | 9/25/03 | Coop

Posted on 09/25/2003 6:59:03 AM PDT by Coop

Why?

-We’re engaged in a long-term war against an enigmatic enemy, with no end in sight

-American military members are suffering and dying at the hands of terrorists on foreign soil

-The media makes a concerted effort to only portray the President in a negative light

-The President’s job approval numbers are well under 60%, with just over a year left until the election

-The President scores well under 50% on polls asking if he should be re-elected

-The economy is struggling to emerge from a recent recession

-Defense spending is way up

-Budget deficits are a serious concern

-National unemployment is over 6%

-The Democrats have assembled a formidable, diverse group of contenders that criticize the President constantly, including one quote: "If [our soldiers] were sent there to fight, they are too few. If they were sent there to die, they are too many."

on unemployment>>
"And an unemployment rate near 6 percent is much too low to influence many votes. For one thing, unemployment is highly concentrated among younger and less-educated people -- two groups with a very low voter turnout. Among married men and women, the unemployment rate is only 3.8 percent."

You seem to have a problem with Mexicans

Ah yes, the old racism charge, a liberal favorite. Sorry, my problem is with Mexicans who come to America illegaly and then set up shop forming tax-payer financed racist organizations that promote the ethnic cleansing of California, Arizona, and New Mexico of the "dirty gringos". These people are the most politically active "Mexicans". I call them Mexicans, because they see themselves as such, still in "Mexico", or Aztlan. if you prefer. I also despise the enablers the in Washington (read GWB) who look the other way will this hideous infestation of racist goons gains a strong foothold, and possibly even the governorship of Mexifornia. Go pedal your phony racism charge somewhere else. You know what I meant.

Yes, things would be SO much better if Algore were president now...

I'm not seeing much difference, as far as domestic policy is concerned. An Algore foreign policy would have been disastrous. But on the home front, I don't see much difference. The PC goons are still running academia, and everyone at the whitehouse dare not offend any offically oppressed minority.

Ah yes, the old racism charge, a liberal favorite.

I didn't accuse you of racism and I am most definitely not a liberal.

Sorry, my problem is with Mexicans who come to America illegaly and then set up shop forming tax-payer financed racist organizations that promote the ethnic cleansing of California, Arizona, and New Mexico of the "dirty gringos".

Then that is what you should have said. But you didn't.

I also despise the enablers the in Washington (read GWB) who look the other way will this hideous infestation of racist goons gains a strong foothold, and possibly even the governorship of Mexifornia.

We've had illegal aliens in droves here since long before Dubya was in office.

Go pedal your phony racism charge somewhere else.

I didn't accuse you of racism.

You know what I meant.

Nah, I don't put words into others' mouths. I believe you say exactly what you mean and mean exactly what you say.

These kind of posts are fun because everyone see's the title and 99 hits and you know it's a laugher....

If you only based that comment on the title and number of hits, without reading the thread, you're missing out.

I'm not interested in seeing W lose. I want to hold his feet to the fire on domestic policy and get him to stop enacting liberal agendas.

Here are the NEW Zogby results:

The Zogby America telephone poll of 1,037 likely voters chosen at random was conducted September 22 - 24, and has a margin of error of +/- 3.2%. Error margins are higher in sub-groups.

Overall opinion of Bush also climbed from early September Zogby numbers. Nearly six in ten (58%) have a favorable opinion and 41% an unfavorable opinion now, compared to 54% favorable and 45% unfavorable in September 3 - 5 polling.

The president would outpoll any of the current leading Democratic contenders if the election were held today. He would earn 45% of the vote against retired General Wesley Clark's 35%; would beat former Vermont Governor Dr. Howard Dean, 47% - 37%; would poll 47% against Massachusetts Senator John Kerry's 37%; and would win over Missouri Congressman Richard Gephardt and Connecticut Senator Joseph Lieberman, 49% - 37%.

Let's not get carried away here... in 1983 we sent troops to Lebanon to "protect" a peace (that was no real peace) -over 200 were killed in one bombing attack. We skeedaddled out of there

That was an attack on 200 military personnel on foreigh soil. It is 10 orders of magintude below the slaughter of 3000 American cvilians on our own soil.

Isn't that the Clinton defense? The other guys did it, too?

Nope. It's not a defense of anyone, just a statement of empirical fact.

Illegal immigration is a gigantic problem that needs to be fixed soon. But placing all of the blame at President Bush's feet is disingenuous.

Fair enough. For my part I'm not interested in supressing dissent from the Dubya party line, I too have a deep dislike many of his domestic moves. I just want people to keep their eyes on the here and now. There are many people at this forum (and it appears you are not among their number) who will support no Republican who is anything less than the Second Coming of Reagan, and if we lose the White House to one of the ten dwarves with our squabbling, then that's just dandy with them. Of course, when we lose Chicago or L.A., maybe they won't be so chipper about it. Right now the main aim needs to be keeping the Dukakis-in-a-tank party out of the White House, otherwise we're going to get raped while we stand on the corner in a bad neighborhood arguing whether we should carry the .38 or the .44.

Don't dismiss this talk so quickly. The Democrats are doing well in keeping their ranks in lockstep against Bush. Independents aren't too thrilled with Bush. And since Bush has abandoned his conservative base, you can count on a serious lack of enthusiasm from the right wing. His approval numbers reflect this.

The .44, of course! But a .50 is a great choice as well. ;-)

Well, fortunately he hasn't abandoned his conservative base, so you should feel much better.

Point being made is that they ain't Middle Easterners.

Drug dealers come from every race. That's why there is much howling (however unjustified) when police pull over cars of 3-4 young black males driving right at the speed limit on the freeway. Virtually all serial killers are white males over thirty, so we look at them hard when there are serial killings.

Nineteen out of 19 of the 9/11 hijackers where Muslim males of similar age, skin color, and almost every one of them had the word "Mohammed" on his birth certificate. Yet we profile on every other characteristic they shared (one way tickets at last minute, etc.) at the airports, to the point where Al Gore gets pulled aside and searched.

Any right-winger who's less than enthusiatic about keeping the ten dwarves out of the White House needs his head examined.

Well, I know I wouldn't pick the .38, I couldn't hit anything with it, I had to take the sidearm class three times! With the M-16, I hit the target 40 out of 40 the first time I shot!

Of course, I'm partial to the 1911, as well.

Here's one week-old example of how Dubya has driven off a full 10% (!!) - wow! - of Republicans in a NJ poll. NJ is not exactly a Republican mecca.

While 90% of Republicans approve of the job Bush is doing, support drops to 61% (still excellent) of independents and 34% of Democrats.

Link

I'll look for other, national examples as I have the time, but unfortunately several of the sites (like Zogby) are now pay per view for many details.

Did CID come after you when you did that? While in basic, there was a private from Kentucky in my company who went 40/40. CID investigated him.

That's a true story. Happened at Ft. Leonard Wood, MO in 1989.

And here's one from New Mexico about ten days ago, with Bush Republican approval in the low 80s - still very good, but not high 80s as I've seen before.
