I wasn't using Tay-Sachs as a rule or standard of consanguinity. I say it is simlar to a consanguinity rule in that it marks impermissible genetic closeness.

I don't know who uses it as a bogus excuse for murdering his kids, although kids who have Tay-Sachs trait usually die within 2 years of age.

Excellent post, your mention of Chesterton's book EUGENICS AND OTHER EVILS neglected to mention the central point of the whole book. Chesterton states with great confidence that the "Captains of Industry" who owned the newspapers where actively promoting a eugenics program because they realized that CAPITALISM as it is practiced is a failure. He said that they were promotting ABORTION, DIVORCE, AND CONTRACEPTION because they knew that they could not pay a man enough to have a family as large as he desired. The result is that today we have a EUGENIC SOCIETY. This is what Chesterton predicted.

Well, I don't know how successful gene pool culling would be in the end. What is that disease Stephen Hawking has? Wasn't it genetic in origin? Do we really need such folks sucking up the groceries and requiring large investments in care and maintenance? What would the human race begin to look like in twenty generations? ... It would depend upon whom starts the gene pool cleansing and where. The wild folk would escape the culling under one system, they would be the first to fall to the engineering under another. Let's face it, humankind is still so into their early adolescent stage of development, and the developmental stages of differing societies is so random that only a one world government could undertake a true culling of the gene pool. Which among you who favor eugenics wants that scenario? ... 'cause you know darn well, the 'wasteful U.S.' would not be allowed to head such a scheme!
