According to Crusade director Joseph Starrs, ALL is once again asking California's Catholic bishops -- as it did this past May with the release of its California Deadly Dozen ad campaign -- to "dispel the lie that a Catholic can be 'personally pro-life' while publicly being pro-abortion." Starrs went on to wonder why, in light of the Catholic Church's steadfast opposition to abortion, "Cardinal Roger Mahony appears to be doing nothing more than appeasing these public figures and celebrities, when as their spiritual leader he should be challenging them."

I believe the Church has shown its mind in the matter of Catholic politicians and the "pro-choice" stance. In fact, I think excommunications may come in the next decade. Maybe sooner.

Catholic voters in republican regimes like the U.S. also have a duty not to give public support to Catholic candidates in dissent from authoritative teaching on this matter. Doing otherwise is giving public scandal.

Liberation from the culture of death is the great public mission of the Church in our times.

To my fellow Catholic Freepers, I say, "Let us take up our share of that cross, and never again support pro-choice Catholics, of whatever party, when we have a possibility of voting for life."
