My response is not to use the whistle but to argue against their product using vulgarity, name calling, etc. In the long run it desn't change things but I generally get the caller so mad that they are ineffectual for some time. I have even had some call back to argue even more.

Such fun

My neighbor answered my phone for me and found a telemarketer on the line, selling the Wall Street Journal. He told her that it now has color, and she went into a "little retarded/demented girl" routine. She said it would be good because she had newspaper all over the walls already, and it would burn better with colors. He said he didn't have a fireplace and she said, that's okay, just burn it on the floor, it's SO pretty. When she told him that she could use it to plug up the holes in the walls, he hung up. But she kept him going for at least two minutes.

I have fun with them too. If you really want to have fun... the next time a male caller calls.... and asks to speak to your spouse... use your best "hick" voice... and repeatedly accuse him of being the 'fella' you saw her runnin' 'round with last week! That can get pretty funny.

I didn't put my name on the "do not call" list because for my wife and I, we get a kick out of it. It's almost always dinner time when they call. I answer on a speaker phone so we can both hear and really have fun with the caller. It's cheap entertainment. :) You can act drunk... or like a stoner... or like a hick.... or whatever. It's pretty funny.
