While a 42 - 40 McClintock - Bustamante poll is a statistcal deadheat, given the margin of error, it does indeed show that "McClintock could win."

The folks now obsessing over the dead heat are among the same posters who've said for weeks that "McClintock can't win."

A poll showing a dead heat shows them wrong on that prediction.

Fair Opinion is apparently trying to sweep this opinion-affecting important news under the rug where no one can see it. That isn't very fair. Let it be showcased so opinions may be fairly tested.

To the point, the Dems know that McClintock is a formidable opponent, and they would love for him to drop out so they can slime Arnold big time. Tom is not only an insurance policy (if something happened to Arnold) he is a shield for Arnold in the sense that he is causing the Dem dirty tricksters to hold their fire. Tom says he will be in to the end--the end may be for him the day before the election if the Swartzenegge numbers hold. I have the greatest respect for Tom taking the heat from his own party for the good of the party.

What dead heat? Whats the margin of Error, and wheres the detailed poll analysis... for everyone here who is so quite aware of how polls are rigged and run... just jumping on this thing like its the holy hand grenade of antioc is crazy.

No way McClintock is above the margin of error in this poll, let alone the method in which it was taken. Sorry guys, McClintock is pipe dream... he's playing Spoiler in this election at best.

I agree that the poll suggests McClintock could win in such a contest. Unfortunately, barring images of Arnold with dead rams, Arnold isn't dropping out.

Still, even though it isn't directly material to What IS, it's a nice refutation of those who said "Tom can't win (or, couldn't have won)," as you say.

I don't place much credence in any polls, until it gets closer to E-Day. Having said that, this is the first poll (42%-40%) that shows McClintock just may have the votes to beat Bustamonte. A good sign for Tom's supporters and a bad sign for the Arnoldnauts.
