Isn't it high time that the McClintock supporters realize that one of the 2 front-runners will become the next governor (or Davis)? If they can't come around to supporting Arnold, shouldn't they, at the very least, redirect their fire towards the true targets, DavisBustamante? Why would they want to further tarnish Arnold, performing the Dems' dirty work?

It's never been about Arnold v. McClintock. It's been about the GOP becoming liberal. Arnold's environmental advisor is Robert Kennedy, Jr. One of his economic advisors is Warren Buffet. He is pro-abortion, pro-gun control, pro-illegal immigrants. He, just recently, came out w/ a decently conservative fiscal policy in a WSJ editorial. Until that, he never uttered anything even remotely to the right of Ted Kennedy. How conservatives jumped on his bandwagon early on is what is the most disturbing. Even if McClintock was never in the race, or had bowed out of the race, Arnold would still have been a lousy candidate that should never have received conservative support.

When are the Arnold supports and conservative politician bashers (it's always, from day one, been about bashing McClintock) going to understand this simple concept? It's about actually analyzing the candidate's positions, not simply supporting a letter after a name.

I hope Arnold does the right thing by CA if he wins. If he does not, and ends up being much more of a liberal than a "moderate", will all of the anti-conservatives agree never to support a liberal again? Will they agree to work on spreading the conservative message and electing conservative candidates? Because, that is how conservatives will eventually win. It is the self-defeating chant of "conservatives can't win, give me a liberal with an 'R'" that is a self-fulfilling prophesy. As long as the "moderates" spend more time defeating and bashing conservative candidates than liberals, conservatives probably won't win.

That is what the issue has been since day one. And, this issue will not go away even if Arnold wins in CA. How Arnold supporters do not understand this is beyond me. I personally could care less about McClintock, and whether or not he stays in the race. It does not change any of the above.

Also, SurveyUSA is not a fly-by-night organization. They poll on statewide and local races for 50 or more TV news organizations nationwide.

SurveyUSA has been oft-criticized because they utilize automated telephone polls, similar to the style used by Scott Rasmussen's now-defunct Portrait of America organization (which failed so spectacularly in the 2000 general election cycle). I myself was very skeptical of them heading into the 2002 campaigns. However, they turned out to have a very good track record. After Harris (which polled only a very few races) and Mason-Dixon, SurveyUSA was the next most accurate firm in terms of calling the correct winner and percent deviation of results. I'll be very interested to see if they can duplicate their 2002 success in 2004.

You think you are being such a brilliant cross examiner, but its plain to see I already answered your question in post #101, dullard.

That is interesting. I am very suspicious of them since their (R)nold numbers have consistently been so much higher than anyone else's, plus like I said, in my very tiny snapshot of the people I know, everybody dislikes the actor.

Perry Mason:

What part of "you have no dignity or honor" don't you understand?

Besides, you ARE a liberal, remember? You have an agenda in this election, why in the world should I care to talk to you, other than to make fun of your rationalizations? You keep bouncing around from topic to topic like I wanna talk to you and we're buddies.

We're not.

Right you are. Unless McClintock bows out, he will have a real hard time hold his Senate seat in the next election. In fact, he would have a hard time getting elected dog catcher.

Here's an interesting take on the difference between Arnold and Boosturtaxes getting elected:

If you're pro-life and that's one of your major concerns about not voting for Arnold, voting for him isn't going to cause you to go get an abortion. Which means it's not going to affect the way you live your life.

On the other hand, if Boosturtaxes get in... you WILL be paying more taxes and have ALL kinds of messed up legislation getting thru that WILL affect your life! Think about THAT you die-hard McC supporters!

You really do lie like you breath. Come on, tell me, you'll vote for McX before Schwarzenegger, wouldn't you? You'll willing suggest that we throw our votes behind the loser, so that your man bustamecha will be elected. Come on, be honest.

A caricature of Schwarzenegger for the True Believers' consumption.

Since you are referring to Conservatives, I take that dodge of the issues it has as a compliment.

The rest of us know the facts.

Facts are fun. They are our friend, not yours. The facts about you (R)nold Groupies is kind of embarrassing.

Do you know what made Arnie such a great body builder? His ability to psyche out his opponents. This is going to be great.

Jim Brulte Backs Schwarzenegger
First, Arnold Schwarzenegger is a strong leader who understands the problems facing California and can bring people together to help solve them.

Second, Arnold Schwarzenneger will be the check we so desperately need in California government today. No matter what the outcome of the recall election, the legislature will continue to be controlled by liberals who over-spend, over-regulate and over-tax. California needs a Republican governor who can check the excesses of that legislature.

Third, Arnold Schwarzenegger is the only Republican that can beat Cruz Bustamante and ensure that, if the voters recall Gray Davis, he is replaced with a Governor who wants to take the state in a different direction.

In making this endorsement, however, I want to make it clear that I have the greatest respect for my Senate colleague Tom McClintock. I have known and worked with Tom for a number of years.

In fact, in 2002 I served as Co-Chairman of Tom's campaign for State Controller. In this volunteer capacity I helped raise more money for his campaign than anyone other than Tom himself. I look forward to helping elect Tom to statewide office in the future.

But at this time, in this election, I believe for Tom the governorship is simply a bridge too far. This eight-week recall campaign is three-fourths complete and Tom continues to be the third place candidate.

I also believe that his candidacy puts at risk not only the election of a Republican governor, but the recall itself.
